On board video card v/s Graphics card
I am planning to buy a new system.I am confused whether to go with on board video card or graphic card.Which is better?I need atleat 512MB video ram, but the on board video card do not specify their video ram.And what is the chipset of a motherboard about.

On board graphics will be worse than an add in board...but many people have no need for the extra power...so what are you using this for, and how much could you spend on a graphics card?

Onboard video uses part of your system ram for the video. It is limited by the type of onboard video chipset used. Some use 64mb, some use 128mb etc. But your system ram is reduced by the amount allocated for the video system.“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”

I have been hammering our pastor for using a laptop for his video sermons. No matter how "macho" the laptop, it bogs down in high-intensity situations.

Why do you need 512?
Also, separate Graphics Cards are much better than onboard.
The Chipset of a motherboard is very important. I would get an nVidia chipset, the nForce4, as they are the best.
Also, Onboard Graphics use up system RAM, which increases latency and robs performance.
