Well. I went to order me a new board/cpu from newegg, last night, didnt get far. Last time I ordered were in the days of Slot A and PC-133 SDRAM. Now I see DDR ram, and the differerence sockets types suchs as 463 769,939, etc. I do not know the differerence, which is what kept me from ordering my board. I just need something between 1.3-2.0 gig to install XP Pro on and use as a back up computer. Not looking to spend alot of money. I already have ATX case and all drives. Prefer to stick with amd athlon if possible. between 70-100 bucks is all I need. I already have a 3.2 gig powerhouse. I also want 256-512 megs of the most inexpensive ddr ram there is. which is what, 2100?? I have no clue. biostar, PC CHips, Epox. which is best? Please advise so I can get this over with.. Thanks.

A cheap and very cheerful AMD Sempron 64 bit CPU/socket 754 motherboard combination similar to the one i have would suit your needs IMO.

I had a quick look on Newegg and i saw a Sempron 2800 64 bit s754 cpu for $32
and the socket 754 motherboards were roughly $45 depending on which one you were to choose

DDR400 RAM aka PC3200 RAM costs roughly $40 for 256 MB or $60 for 512mb at a quick glance at Newegg

You could prolly find cheaper prices than i have done quickly btw.

It maybe a little over your budget yes? but isn't that always the case?
