hey everyone,
i'm looking to upgrade my motherboard and cpu in the near future. it seems like c2d is the way to go, however i will need a new motherboard as i am currently running an am2 motherboard and cpu. parts for the new mobo/cpu setup will be:
-corsair pc5300 ddr2 ram (1gb)
-250 gig seagate sata
-gigabyte 7900gt
-430 watt psu
i think that's pretty much the important parts. i'm thinking of getting something down the line of gigabyte 965p ds3. anny suggestions would be great.
thanks.
p.s i know this is a motherboard thread, but any ideas on what c2d would be the best value would also be appreciated. |

what is your budget? That is what decides what is good for you. The E6300 is the best bang for the buck, but if you can afford it, the extra 2MB of cache on the E6600 really shows improvement. Also, for motherboards, just about any major brand 965P, 975X, or 680i are great motherboards, it's just dependent upon how much you want to spend as to which to get. Let us know how much and then you'll get better answers :-P

hey there, and thanks for the reply! if you say that the extra cache is better on the e6600, and it will provide better lastability, then i'd be happy to go for that. i'm not really worried about the budget so much, it shouldn't cost more than 300aud whatever mobo i decide to get. thanks again! |

The gigabyte 965p-ds3 is a great board from what I've read. The 965p-s3 is similar with a few less features. Costs less too & I know AUD prices tend to be really high for hardware. |

yeah, it looks like the ds3 is only different to the s3 in that it has solid capacitors. granted, the s3 costs about 60 aud less. so it depends whether or not i'd want to pay the extra money for a longer lasting, more stable motherboard (or at least that's what i'd expect). |
