Depending on weather you are planning on running Crossfire or SLI. I would personally select the 680i SLI board for single card or SLI, but if you want to run crossfire, you'll need the 975X board. |

You know after doing more reseach last night it does seem that the 680i board is a better option,.. plus i didn't know about the crossfire thing. Plus I have always stuck with Nvidia for video cards. Thanks for your info!

IMO the i975X is the better choice for a single video card. Intel's chipset is very stable and I think the 975X is marginally faster than 680i. You also have the ability to use Intel Matrix Raid, where you can use 2 or more drives to create two partitions - one raid 0 & one raid 1. |

i've only heard bad things about both the 975x chipset (that the p965 is much better) and that intel make rubbish mobos, but only from a few people that i know...
as for the nforce 680i, nothing but good things (i know a couple of people with the asus striker extreme, and they reckon it's wicked good).
again though, it depends on your needs. if you like, and would use, the intel matrix raid then go the 975x. but if not, i would still stick to what him61 said, and use the 680 board for both single AND sli cards. |

Actually, in gaming and most apps, the 680i chipset does just a little bit better than the 975X. |

Intel makes very good boards actually, very stable, good performance, they're just not tweaker minded and have little customization options for overclocking and such.
As far as chipsets... When I'm building a PC for a client, I'll almost always go with the Intel chipset simply becuase I know it performs quite will and I know it is very stable and reliable. If I was building one for myself on a single card system, it would be a toss up. I've only built one PC around an nVidia chipset for an Intel CPU and while it worked and performed great, I was not comfortable with how hot the chipset ran.

I have the 975x chipset on my new ABIT board. Solid and stable. That's what I was looking for after several months with an unstable SIS chipset board.

tbh, i've never had that much experience personally with the intel chipsets, i am merely going by what i've heard about them. they seem to get pretty good ratings on newegg though, and i go here for a lot of valuable feedback about parts. it seems that australia is the complete opposite to america as far as choice of parts etc goes (or at least, it feels that way).
i spoke to my colleague at work recently about the 975x chipset and i basically got told that it was rubbish, and the p965 was much better.
i really can't judge because i don't have enough experience as far as the two chipsets go. if you wanted my vote though, it'd be for the 680i. |
