| Asus P4S533-X help with USB
I have a friend in Montana who is trying to get her USB ports to work.
History: Her boyfriend (now deceased) was a Linux geek. He had a duel boot and about 8 different drives partitioned on her computer.
She's not a geek, she's a point and click kinda gal
So we walked though formatting her hard dive by phone and firing up a XP only box.
She didn't have sound afterward but ventured to the Asus site as I was sleeping (2 hour time diff).... plus she was hooked, and just couldn't go to bed without it working OK she got the sound drivers installed and has sound.
Now her UDB ports have power, (her external hard drive lights up when she plugs it in) but nothing shows up under my computer to show that the drive is there.
She has something else that wont work on the USB either but I can't remember what.
There are no usbs listed in her device manager either.
I was thinking they may have been turned off in the bios or something, but I've never seen an asus bios, and we can't seem to find anything for peripherals on the phone.
Can you guys help?
Who's got a similar asus?
Where'd the usb ports go? Or where are the controllers? Does she need to download them from Asus? What files?
I poke buttons with wild abandon with my stuff, but I can't break her computer long distance |

Sounds like she needs to download more drivers from ASUS. There are a couple of ways to check, in device manager are there any components with exclamation marks and driver not installed?, if she does a windows update does it tell her that she needs to new drivers for anything?, I suggest she just goes ahead and installs all available hardware drivers for her mobo model from the ASUS website, then run a windows update to see if Windows has any newer drivers.
Regards,

Dude! I haven't seen you in a Long Time!!
Thanks, I've sent her a link to the thread I know she's still missing a few drivers, so that's probably the place to start. I didn't see anything about USB when I was looking at the files.
But that's how JT got her sound back. |

I saw USB drivers in the IDE subsection and the Utilities sub-section.
Should proly install everything from there.
EDIT: The site doesnt work well w/ Opera. Havent tried FF, but IE works well.

In the Audio, IDE, VGA, LAN, and Utilities (ALL OF THEM) categories you want the most updated driver from each section for XP. Which is usually the top driver.
You proly want the Bios and bios Utility too. Choose the one for "All OS"
Too get to the drivers you need:
Click my link in the previos post.
Choose Motherboards
Choose Socket 478
Choose P4s533-x |
