Replace P4B266-LA with something with a PCI-e slot

Will I be able to keep most of the other things?

I'm sure i'll have to get a new powersource and processor-- but how do I make sure it fits in the current Pavilion 760c's case? Will I be able to keep the hard drive and other peripherals?

Will the expense mean that I'm better off just buy a new faster computer?

You'll also need new ram since you're currently using DDR.

Odds are, if your using the OEM XP that came with the machine, it won't work with a different mobo....

Getting a different mobo to fit the case could be hard....You might as well start from scratch.

hmm... well XP's not a problem, I have an XP disc.

but i'm starting to think about the other things implied by what you said.

I'll have to get drivers and all kinds of stuff.

So I guess my new question is: if I start from scratch, will I be able to keep the current hard drive?

AND Thank you for responding so quickly

Maybe....Your drive is probably an IDE drive and most newer mobo's are SATA only..But you should be ale to find a mobo that use both types of drives.

If you're wanting to use the drive and keep the same XP install, then it gets harder...It full of the wrong drivers.....A repair install of the OS would probably fix it.
