| A8N-E 3 sticks of memory in dual channel
Curious if anyone knows which banks to put my ram in to run in dual channel?
Have 2x512 ddr400 and 1x1gb ddr400
I am pretty sure it's possible to do this on an nforce2 board, but haven't found a winning combination and don't want to keep pulling it out in case I break something in the process.
ASUS A8N-E motherboard

nope, not going to happen, I can't remember if those older boards only had 3 or 4 slots, if 3, your only option is to run the 2 512MB's, or sell them & grab a 2nd 1GB stick to match the other, then run both of those in Dual Channel (make sure both sticks are either single or double sided to match, as well as capacity).
for dual channel you need 2 or 4 sticks, dual channel is running 2 64-bit sticks as a single 128-bit one (for current RAM), its in a way like RAID 0 for RAM, bad analogy but along same lines. |

4 slots.
Hmmm. I have been googling and haven't found anything I was hoping to hear either. I don't think it is possible, yet I was pretty sure it was?
I tried some diff combinations and they all come up single channel. I bought two of these 1gb sticks, but one was for my dads machine. I could use it but don't really want to.
Is there a big difference between dual and single channel anyways? I had other 512's I would have used if I wanted single channel? But I thought using 4x512 made it run at 333mhz? If I could have used my 4x512 and had dual channel ddr400 I should have done that? Feeling alittle like I wasted my money. I can take em back but it's a 40 minute drive. Or open the other package up and use two 1gb sticks (brand new old technology) wasting basically 4x512 in the meantime. |

Thought about this for a bit. Then went out to the shop where my old comp with the other two sticks of ram is. It hasn't been used since and doesn't need the ram I guess so I pulled them out, put em in with my other 2x512.
Posted great at 2gb's dual channel ddr400.
Why oh why did I not do this waaay b4? Sigh.
Thanks for your help none the less though. Problem solved. |
