| Asus P5PE-VM fails to boot
Hi,
Basic machine running Asus P5PE-VM mobo, will only boot for about 10-20 seconds. All the fans come on, gets thru basic bios/startup screen, but will only load for a short time before it shuts itself off. About a month ago I replaced the PSU with a larger unit, as the old one died/had fan issues.
Wondering if anyone knows of any simple solutions?
Thanks! |

Following error messages show up during startup:
Error: /bin/insmod exited abnormally
- VFS: cannot open root device "label=/" or 00:00
- Please appen a correct "root=" boot option
- Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00
After that, it'll sit (long enough for me write all of that down) and then eventually shut itself off. So....what now? |

Can you see the disks in BIOS? Make sure everything is plugged in properly. |

yes, the hds show up in the bios.
when I get into the grub menu, I'm given this:
grub append> ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi
From what I've been reading, I (may) need to change this, but to what and how...?
Thanks for the help so far |

I assume you are running Linux then. Did anything happen that led to the system refusing to boot? |

Yes, Linux 7.5.1
Here's the full background: tried to replace the mobo, and when we booted up for the 1st time, the comp would shut itself down after 30 seconds or so, while it was still running through startup procedures. So, we reinstalled the old mobo, and now we have this new problem. Which seems very odd to us, as it all worked fine before (as in yesterday). It's all rather frustrating, really. |
