Is this your board? Is there a decal covering the screws?

It's probably not hitting the cover, more likely it is dust or a bad bearing

In my experience, you can "bandaid" a small northbridge fan all you want, but it is too small to actually ever work well period.
I suggest replacing it altogether with a fanless option.

as long as your case has relatively decent airflow this will more than suffice

    noisy chipset fan

Hello, I wonder if somebody can help me. I have a A8N-SLI mb with a noisy fan sometimes the fan sound like it's rubbing against the cover. I would like to remove the cover to get access to the fan to clean it and oil it and to let it run without the cover. I feel that would be a temporary solution until I get a new fan. The cover has no screws . Is there a way I could remove the cover without moving the fan from the mb? I asked this question yesterday but I did not get the answer I was looking for. I would appreciate if someone could give me an answer.
    Thanks .

Unfortunately, you'll need to remove the entire motherboard to get at the fan. The pins holding it to the motherboard need to be compressed from the bottom in order to remove them. Since you'll need to go that far, it would be best to buy a new cooling solution such as the one JPMiller suggested.
