What is the fastest Win X64 Motherboard & Processor(s) combination $1000US can buy?

I want the motherboard and CPU combination which will run Windows XP X64 at the fastest speed with the most programs open and running. I am specifying Win X64 to take advantage of all the memory I can pack into it. I am not a gamer, but I do use Adobe Photoshop and several other software programs simultaneously with Firefox to edit movies and subtitles. Thank you for any advice

Well the fastest vs the best option for the money are going to be two different things.

If you've only got $1k to spend you'll need to go cheaper with the board and cpu to allow for the cost of ram, a good power supply a video card and other accessories. Just buying the fastest cpu and board isn't going to do much if you don't buy the rest of the parts.

The obvious answer for what would be the absolute fastest would be a Core i7 940, coupled with a nice socket 1366 motherboard. Just for the chip and board you would be at about $850-900.

But for what you are doing you could easily go with a slightly more budget minded build and still get great performance.

I have come here for advice on what you people would recommend for a new motherboard and CPU for my computer. What I am running now is as follows:
Asus A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 2.6GHz Processor (Clawhammer) Socket 939 CPU
2 Pair Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 2 GB Kit DDR400 XMS3200 Memory
GIGABYTE GV-NX68T256DH Geforce 6800 GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express
x16 Video Card
Thermaltake W0049RUC Silent Pure Power 680W Power Supply
Windows XP x64 Professional

What I need to do is rebuild this unit to handle CPU and memory intensive operations without locking up on me so frequently. If a good, fast motherboard and CPU combination can be had cheaply then I will certainly go for it.
Since my computers and radio-controlled model airplanes are my only hobbies I can afford to go to high-end components, but I am not out to merely achieve the fastest bench mark. I really want to get the most bang for my bucks but I need performance over bragging rights.
Any advice would be most helpful as I have fallen behind in knowing what is now available in components. Thank you.
