| cmos trouble with biostar TF8200
Hello everyone--I just put together a computer and when I turned it on for the first time i had to reset the cmos for anything to happen--other than the fans running.. Installing the os was a nightmare because it would never reboot unless I cleared cmos..like 7 times
This is a TF8200 from Biostar and a 9950 amd x4 BE 125watt. There is a pci firewire addon card and no video card--there are 2 sata wd 640 gb hard drives and i did not set master/slave---did I have to since they are sata??antec case with 430 watt ps
After clearing cmos it boots into windows but I have to click F2 to use defaults and enter windows ..
I have never heard any beeps
There are also 8 gigs 4x2gb of patriot memory in it now . I tried only x4 gb of crucial [1.8v] and problem was still there--I also tried with 2 x 2g of Patriot--no go..right now the patriot is in ]8gb] and the voltage is 1.8+ It is supposed to be 2.2 but i can't find the setting in the bios--the only one I see is grayed out. The crucial was 1.8 volts and that did not work either..
The memory is in good...
I have had to clear cmos a lot,but have not removed the battery---it has 3 clips holding it in?? It don't look too easy to remove since o have big hands Does The fact that I had to clear cmos on initial start up to get it to post mean the battery is dead.
The winxp pro 64 bit os in installed but it was a nightmare like i said.
I have not updated the bios mostly because it did not start up right the first time so while the bios update will help some thing i don't feel this is caused by an old bios. I have contacted Biostar tech support but doubt i will hear anything before next week...
Thanks for any help |

now I am getting a windows must shut down to protect my computer bsod. I did not install or change anything since the last time it booted after I cleared cmos |

I will do that but i don't have one handy This thing is like 1 yr old out of warranty and I am hoping Biostar will maybe send on to me free--I mean the battery must have shipped dead. Any idea where they sell then online I can't find it..
I'll see how much radio shack will want---looks like 3 x normal

A cmos battery needs to recharge if it has set a long time and lost charge. You should leave it in the unit for 24 hours with the unit plugged in and not running. This will recharge the battery. If the problem persists after that........replace it......they are cheap to replace.
On the sata thing............You might want to try a raid driver like Jbob or something. Sometimes its necessary with specific motherboards........The manufacturer may have left that driver disk out......but will have it at the download site.
Good luck!

| Biostar TF8200 A2+ Motherboard Reviews - OCIA.net
"The T-Series screen is really where things begin to get interesting. There are two versions of that page shown above. The first one on the left is the 03/04 BIOS release that shows the CPU Multi option grayed out. The picture in the center shows the 05/29 version which opens up a whole new sub-menu for Custom P-States, shown on the right. I was able to perform some amount of overclocking with the old BIOS just by increasing the base frequency from 200 to 231, however with no separate multiplier and northbridge control there was a limit to how far the chip would go. The new version gives you the individual CPU and NB multipliers and dividers needed. With Phenom, the core frequency can be adjusted separately from the internal northbridge frequency, and there are now multipliers for each and even dividers for the multipliers. There could be an entire article devoted to Phenom overclocking, but for sake of brevity, I won't get into that in this review"
it looks to me you need to update your bios,to gain access to these settings

did what I said I would--now i don't get past the hardware monitor screen--Here is the support ticket sent to Biostar--I hope i get a reply this time..
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Not to be rude or anything--this is the second support issue i have submitted--the first one went unanswered going on 5 days now--I really need to get this thing up and running stable so please reply even if just to say get lost--I can't wait around another 5++++ days+++for an answer that is not coming
The board has the latest bios and was working fine with this crucial memory and an amd x2 5600... I switched the memory to 4 x 2gb [8g total of patriot memory [800 at 2.2.v] and added the phenom 9950 both memory and cpu were recognized--set up 2.2 volts in bios and left cpu v at 1.25 or something--save and exit now it does not get past the hardware monitor screen--the only other hardware is an unused but hooked up wd hd... replaced memory with crucial 1.8v --memory is seated and recognized--default values set-- same result --will not get past hardware monitor---it worked before with this memory and the 5600..The blinking hash mark on the hardware monitor screen drops about an inck
h or so--then keeps blinking but that is it....I have done multiple hard shutdowns and cmos resets---
I also still have the bios bad checksum showing up [from the first support ticket--Damn I hate seeing that---after I did the bios update i did not clear cmos --If that is very important it should be more clear and unmissable in the instruction, as it is i don't even see it in the book--when i deliberately look for it--I think I saw it somewhere else though
all latest drivers downloaded from your site..
need help --have project due and running out of time and want to use the phenom not the 5600... |
