Last night I installed the zune software on a fresh windows 7 RC installation, and had plugged in my zune when all usb devices became non-responsive. I thought my computer had just froze up , so I shut it down and restarted, and it said no keyboard present, so it wouldn't boot. I use a usb keyboard, so I went and found a ps2 one and plugged it in, and it boot up. But now none of my usb ports seem to be working. My usb keyboard and mouse don't work, it doesn't recognize anything I plug in.
I seems kind of serious problem cause the bios won't even see my usb keyboard anymore. So I've reset the bios, and tried changing some usb settings in it, but I'm beginning to wonder if my board's usb has just given up the ghost. Anything else I can try?
My system specs are
evga 750i ftw mobo
e8500
4gig corsair mem
1tb hd
750 watt psu
2x 9800gtx+
windwos 7 RC |

Are all the USB headers on your motherboard being used? Might try switching the header the front is plugged into.
Also are the back USB's (the ones mounted on the board directly) working at all?
How long have you had that board? |

When I plugged in the zune, I plugged it into the front usb ports that come off the mobo headers. The funny thing is that it's taken out all usb ports, both front and back. I tried unplugging everything except for my usb keyboard, and tried in various ports both front and back. I then went and unplugged the front usb from the mobo header to see if it was messing everything up, but tha back usb still don't work. I don't know how plugging something in the mobo header usb ports could take out the back ones too. I've had the board for about a year now. |

Well if it shorted out, it could have taken more then just the back USB's out also. And really, your kind of lucky this happened now. Your board is still under warranty, so you should be able to fill out a RMA with evga, and get a new one.
I don't really know of anything you can do to fix it though.. |

| I have the same problem but it is a virus
I had installed a program and all my usb ports stopped working. I didn't notice till i plugged stuff in. Every thing that was plugged in worked till I unplugged it.
I booted up on my other system drive and it worked fine. I have a triple boot system, so it wasn't a big deal, but that was my main play drive. Reconfiguering all my link to all my drives is a pain.
The program did have a virus so you may have a virus. I am still trying to bring that system back cause i have unfinished torrents to complete, LOL. Like 300 gigs worth. I don't think your mobo is messed up, i think you just need to reformat. Good luck.
Specs
Intel quadcore 2.33 q8200 overclocked to 3.31 with 4 gigs
Corsair Dominator ddr2 at 1152 gigabyte ep45 ud3p mobo
2 4890 ATI Radeon Saphires
850 watt power
System temp values 33 to 46 depending on the load. air cooled,

Lance, if you have a spare PSU, try that. It could be a problem with the 5 volt line.
If jasun954 is right, and it is caused by a virus or other damage to the operating system (not so likely if the BIOS was affected, too) then booting from a live Linux cd would let the USB work.
Happy diagnostic time. Say hi to the rest of the WVC guys from me.

Yea, my USB keyboard was non-responsive in the bios, so I think i could eliminate that as a virus problem, it would only see my ps2 one. Wow, didn't even think of the PSU. Well, actually I just sent the mobo in the mail today to EVGA, so they should send me something else. However, if I had a PSU problem, I would have sent them a perfectly good board. I guess we'll see when I get something back from them how that goes. I'll keep you updated.
Lol, yea, I'll tell the rest of the guys hi. We got together this last week and had a LanParty. We'll have to upload some pics sometime. All but dchw_dude could make it, who actually just got engaged, so congratulate him when you get the chance. |

Warn the poor woman, will you? J/K
There is a pretty high chance that any interruption of the 5 volt line could be on the mobo rather than the PSU anyway, if that is your problem. I mentioned it only as a fairly easy diagnostic test. I never knew you had sent the board off, but remember you can test like that in the future, if needed. |

My reason is becauze I didn't see anyone say anything about checking the device manager. In the device manager, you will see all you usb port hubs. If you have ? besides any of them, all you had to do was uninstall that port and reboot your unit. You said that all your ports wasn't working. This tells me that you main usb hub was malfunctioning, however you could uninstall it, and reboot. Once you reboot your unit, it will reinstall all ports, but may need your system disk for the drivers. I hope you look in to this first if a problem accurs in the future. |

Sorry, should've kept you updated. I got my RMA board from EVGA a while back now. No questions asked from EVGA. Guess it just must have been the USB ship for something. |
