    Question Replacement Board...

    Hi Everyone,

My PC is having major power related issues. After replacing RAM, Power Supply, double checking Video Card and cables ... I'm down to motherboard. I called Gigabyte and they confirmed that my problem is most likely motherboard related.

Gigabyte MBs come with a 3 year warranty .. however, they expect me to package it and send it to them for repair or replacement .. a process that can take up to 8 weeks.

I can't really wait 8 weeks... so I was thinking about replacing my MB.

My current board is no longer in production... GigaByte GA-P35-DS3R (Socket 775).

What would be a good replacement?

    The PC has...
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB/1066FSB S775 CPU
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix (BL2KIT12864AA1065) DDR2 1066Mhz PC28500 2GB 240-pin
    Video Card: BFG GeForce 8800GTS OC 550MHZ 640MB 1.6GHZ GDDR3

For this 'older' pc .. price is a factor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

    Thank you.

    Update...

After checking out a few options/reviews I've opted for the following replacement board....

    Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E 2PCI SATA2 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard

Apparently this board is a direct replacement for the board currently being used (plus a few upgrads) and I was able to purchase this board for $83 (+$8 for shipping). Hopefully this solves my problem.

Thanks to those who took the time to check this post.

Whoops, I would have replied, just got into work too late! Looks like a good board, especially for the price. I agree that 8 weeks would have been too long to wait. But, you can still send it in for repair/replacement now and just sell it or keep it as a spare now (the p35 that is).

A replacement board is always nice to have.

A lot of times they say 8 weeks just to cover their butt. When in fact most of the time, they send you a new board, or a refurbed one already. So it normally doesn't take that long.
As far as a new board, you found the one I was going to suggest. That's pretty much known as one of the best skt 775 boards there is.

    EP45-UD3L - differences from GA-P35-DS3R

A key difference from the GA-P35-DS3R is the lack of the second SATA controller. You only have the six Intel ports, and no two additional ports.

It handles more and faster memory, but make sure you don't need those two SATA ports. I use the six Intel ports for RAID5, one Realtek port for my boot drive and one for an optical drive. I'd be stuck without the other two ports.
