Question Need help with choosing a desktop mobo

I have an older PC (Compaq; model # sr1020nx) with a bad motherboard.
Would like to replace the board with a new one to use as a backup (for offline games).

The hardware in the box is the stock hardware (except for an additonal stick of memory).

    PC specs:
Product Specifications Compaq Presario SR1020NX Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

    Motherboard specs:
Motherboard Specifications, MS-6577 (Giovani, Giovani2) Compaq Presario SR1020NX Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Looking for suggestions for a compatable motherboard and where to purchase.

    Thank you!

The only place you can find boards that old is used.
A board like that shouldn't be much more than $10, at least that is what I payed on E-Bay 6 years ago.
It is a socket 478, most Micro ATX boards should fit, you will need one with on-board video.

If you have to spend much more that $10 or $20, it really isn't worth it

    Edit
    What operating system?

Wow, that's a surprise, they still sell them.
We usually don't even recommend upgrading them.

If you have XP, will M$ validate your OEM copy, is the next question.
As it it will be a new motherboard.

nice deal on the Biostar, its Socket 478, but it has a PCI Express Slot, and uses DDR2, which was rare if ever on Socket 478 back years ago.

most of those features were Intel Socket 775 features.

It doesn't look like the Biostar has 400fsb, the Asus dose though, and won't need new memory
