I'm having a problem with my computer, and I'm hoping it's not unique so that someone out there may have a solution. Let me explain what happened.

I'm running Windows XP SP3, and I had a PCI-Express eGeForce 7600 GS and a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum set up in it, along with the Live! Drive for front-loading jacks. So far, so good. Turns out my video card blew 4 resisters (transistors? transformers? the silver upright cylinders) and I guess it didn't like the idea of working with those being broken, and it stopped working. I actually heard one of them go, but didn't know that's what it was at the time.

Anyway, while verifying what was happening I ended up using WinAmp to play some music after having booted up Windows with no video output, so the sound card does still work. After looking up my lifetime warranty information (thanks, evga) I pulled the video card out, set the BIOS up to use the onboard video (VIA/S3G DeltaChrome IGP) with 256MB RAM (maximum setting), and rebooted to Windows. A couple driver installs and reboots later and I was back in business.

Unfortunately, my SB Live! was no longer sending sound to the speakers after doing this. My volume control still had the SB Live! icon attached to it, and the drivers were all still installed; Windows Update even recommended, downloaded and installed the driver for my game port. Everything checks out from the driver side, except the volume control had reverted to non-SB Live! sliders only, the Live! Drive sliders were absent, and no sound was coming out of the speakers.

I tried changing the BIOS to use onboard sound, not use it, set an IRQ for the video card, not set an IRQ for the video card, still no love. I finally broke down and installed the drivers for my onboard audio and moved the speaker wire to it, and got sound that way, but I installed the SB Live! for a reason, and now it's not working.

So, is there a known conflict here that I'm unaware of? Does the K8M890M-M require either both to be onboard or both not onboard for some reason? Can anyone please lend some insight?

Thanks in advance.
