    SATA3_4 on motherboard

    Hello!

This may sound stupid, but there are 2 sata ports stacked on top of eachother on my motherboard and labeled "Sata3_4". I've been trying to figure out if Sata port 3 is on top or on bottom to no avail. The configuration looks as such below:

    Please help! Thank you!

Question? Does it matter? last I checked it doesn't matter what plug to use a SATA device.

otherwise, looking at the plugs, since they are in stacks of 2, my guess would be the first stack there would be 3 & 4, with 3 being on top.

but only way to be certain is to plug a device in, and see what it says when you boot up or go into the bios, should state whether its using Port 3 or 4.

My best guess would be that SATA 3 is on top.

If we could see the SATA 1 and 2 label, it might give us insight on how they label. I can see the 2.

What is the motherboard maker and model number?
I can look up the manual, if you don't have one.

Out of curiosity, why do you need to know?

I looked everywhere in the manual as well but could not find any references. I guess it doesnt matter how the devices are plugged into each SATA port?? I am building a computer right now and am still a novice so I was not sure how to plug in all my devices into each SATA port. But just incase, I wanted to plug in each device in sequential order (SATA1, SATA2, SATA3, etc...).

Plug in 1 device, then start the computer, and go into the BIOS, and see what you have.

Edit; I see Shyguy has that covered.

Do I need to plug in each device in sequential order? Or can I plug them into any SATA port?

That's not the motherboard in your picture, unless they have moved the SATA ports.

I'm still in the dark ages, so I only have 2 SATA ports.

As far as I know it doesn't matter, unless you are using RAID and there are 2 SATA controller chips.
As far as I know, the ports would be different colors, or marked in that case.

I'm guessing your board only has 1 controller, so it never matters.

I know the other 2 posters know, so they will correct me if I am wrong.
