need help connecting new Dell Inspiron power supply

    For my Dell 4600 Inspiron
It has been many months since I removed my old power supply and this new one arrived. So I've had plenty of time to forget which wire connects where.

Can anyone help, hopefully provide a visual scheme, for all those P1, P2, P3 thru P9 connections, some of which remain capped and unconnnected?

    Hi Curveballsenator,

    Welcome to TechIMO.

I'm going to assume you mean a Dimension 4600. Otherwise, please ignore this link to the service manual.

It looks like the only 2 plugs that plug into the motherboard are the top left 20 pin, excluding the extra 4 pin plug, and the top right P4.

The top middle left is for IDE hard drives, and CD ROMs.( do you have any SATA drives)?( lower left 15 pin SATA2 (SATA1 is similar)

The top middle right is for floppy drives.

Some power supplies have a 6 pin aux, bottom middle, that hasn't been used in years. sometimes marked P6.

The only other plug would be if you have video card, that has a plug. That could be the same as the IDE hard drive, or the 6 pin PCI express lower middle left.( it also comes in 4 pin PCI-e).

If it is a Dell power supply, it may have that (also)P6, lower right, but non of my Dells use it.
