Jumperless MB. OH realy????
I just got out a motherboard I had in a box - like forever and hooked it up to a new case I had just gotten. This computer is a loaner so need to get mine going. I noticed something after I tried to boot it up. It would go the memory test, OK, then show all hardware hooked up to it, then it would ask me if I wanted to go into the RAID something, it never stayed on the screen long enough for me to read it. Only that if I wanted to go there to press F4 or Ctrl S, I tried both and nothing happened. It just keeps rebooting and rebooting. Then I got to looking at the board itself. Of course I have a ANTEC 550 True power 2.0 PS and didn't know I had to plug the ATX plug in on the other side of the CPU with no extra length to get there, so I cut the mesh holding all the wires together just enough to get the ATX to plug in, but that didn't help it mainly added to the problem. Now it tells me I have to go into the Bios and set everything for RAID. OK, computer stupid here, whats a RAID???

I also noticed that this board didn't have a jumper one on it, not anywhere, I have never seen a MB that didn't have jumpers somewhere. I am thinking that may be my whole problem. This MB is jumper-less so wants to do everything at once. All that going to accomplish it burning it up. Got any where I can get instructions as to where to put jumpers on this dude? OH, its a GA-7N400 Pro 2. I heard they are a good board, that's why I bought it (way back when), but never noticed the jumper-less little thing. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

well you can get the manual here if you don't have it http://www.gigabyte.lv/products/page...2_1x/download/
there isn't much worry about burning it up, I've never seen a board overclock or over volt by default. If anything it would run slower than its supposed to.
RAID is a redundant drive setup RAID - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
if you don't need it then don't set it up.

It is probably just timing when you press F4 or Ctrl S, they only give you a second or 2.
Don't hold it down, just press one of them repeatedly from the start, that way you won't miss it.
If you don't know what it is, I'm guessing you don't need it.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

I already have the manual and have read it, all 88 pages, even the blank ones. I went back into the Bios and just set everything as Default as the manual suggested. As for getting into the RAID set up, that was the Ctrl-s or F5 options, I tried them continuous and could never get in. So, will forget the RAID thing totally. Yet, when I reboot, I don't see the enter raid setup" anymore but what I do see is the system clears and starts to bring up the OS but I get the slight flash of a blue screen and a flash of my XP boot screen, then the thing reboots again. Nothing changes the end results the two flashing screens and the rebooting. I am totally stumped. I have built more computers from the case up for myself, and anyone else that was willing to pay for the parts but I never have run into anything like this, not even looking for it in a forum.
If anyone has any idea's, I am all eyes (can't say all ears) you have to send me a typed message not talk to me. OK, that was stupid but I am feeling pretty stupid with this motherboard and about ready to put it back in the box and order another one.

From the sounds of it you are trying to use an old install of XP on a new board? If so that is most likely your issue right there. Try to boot into safe mode and see what you get.

Well, that was a waste of time. I tried it several times and it keeps rebooting and won't go into Safe Mode either. I thought the version of XP Pro I had on that drive was up to date and ready to go. Whats your thoughts on this. IN the mean time, I am going to try and put it in another computer and see what happens. I sure hate to think of loosing everything on that drive.
If the case is that its an old version of XP Pro, I have two other HD that I can wipe clean and start XP new on one and see if the board will accept it. If so, then I can put the old drive as a slave and get the files that way, I think? I did it once before but that was many ages ago, back in the Jurassic days.

You cant just swap out harddrives that have windows on it and expect it to boot with different hardware...
It MAY work 1 in a hundred times if the hardware isnt too far different, but unless you use sysprep to reset the drive so its seeing the hardware for the first time like a new install, you'll always have issues.
You can just slave it to another computer and pull the files you need off of it

Your totally right. That's what I plan on doing is transferring the files into the other computer HD I just got done. That one I did get to work with the hard drive on a different board must have been a fluke. Its worked several times for me but not with this newer mother board. Shes a bit testy I think, so I need to transfer files onto a smaller drive, wipe that drive after the files are transferred, (because its a larger HD) I had 2-80G that need wiped, then I will do a new install, (I hope with the new motherboard. If it doesn't work, you will definitely hear from me. I am always trying the impossible and shocked when it works.

I have been working on two different computers for the past two days. I finally decided to take 2 WD -HD's wipe them and install windows on them with the PC that has the troublesome MB in it. IT would let me get to a certain point then shut down the computer and give me a blue screen with error report. So, O know the two Hard Drives are good. I just kept them around from other computers I had in case I wanted to use one as a slave, but the HD in the MB I am having all the problems with is really getting me in a not so good mood. There has to be a setting somewhere that should not be turned on and is.
I got into the RAID utility and Settings and here are the results.
Gig. Setup Utility
RAID MODE - normal stripe, mirror, stripe mirror, and span ( could be my writing is off, but think you know what that should be if I spelled it wrong).
unused Drive (s) 0
Drive array - 0
Array Capacity (Sn on MB) - 0
Define RAID:
All Array 1-3 blank
rebuilt - all blank
RAID CARD Conf.
Auto rebuilt - disable or enable
Channel - 0 Interrupt B I/P Port 0000 /A810
Channel - 1 Interrupt I/P Port 0000BOLO
Drive Status
Ch ID Drive Name -
Size Drive
(MB) Array N Mode
The error that I keep getting on each and every drive, even the ones I have wiped and tried to put XP on gave me this error:
Stop: C000021a {fatal System Error}\
The Window Log on process system process terminated unexpectedly with the status 0
The System has been shut down.
I need to get back into the other RAID settings and see what is going on in there. Apparently, this MB had been set in RAID before I got it.
Since I don't know how to set it up in RAID I am not sure I want to anyway. I will do some more research on RAID while you can look over my junk up yonder. LOL
