    Computer quit working->

It just stopped at the Motherboard screen, and now no longer any buttons will work, not delete or F3 or whatever.

Is this a motherboard problem for sure?

What I was thinking was just investing in nice new parts anyways, since soon I'll be gaining over 100,000$ (before taxes).

Is it worth it to invest in the 'latest technology', and what is that technology like nowadays?

Last time I heard 'PCI Express" was the greatest in motherboard technology, and allowed me to plug in a GeForce 8800 or something or other graphics card.

So what do you think happened?

I had quit using the internet for about three months before it happened one day, after I finished watching a movie and turned it off.

A little while back one of my RAM cards broke, and I found a missing chip, so I was running on only one RAM card.

But it isn't very hot here at all, so I know my computer didn't overheat.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what the problem was that occured, and am also curious as to what my options for future investments are.

Thank you for your time and consideration as always, TechIMO people.

It could be any component at this point, without testing.

I don't know what your specs are, but the 8800s are in the range of the 8800GS @ 703 on this benchmark. some are faster, and it is still no slouch.
PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards

A new top end card like the GTX 580 gets 3818, on the same benchmark, so yes technology has improved.

You could build a new computer for $400 to $1000, depending on how crazy, you want to go.

My computer came back on, I unplugged it for awhile and after I plugged it back in everything was working fine.

Actually I'm selling a painting to the art museum in Portland, I'm pretty much making what my parents make in one year three times over in one day.

Wow that is a pretty big difference from 703 to 3818, I'm definately interested in upgrading some time.

I'd be looking for that sweet spot in the price point where the technology is as good as it gets before getting into the ridiculous and overly priced range.

Give us a budget, and what programs/ games you plan on installing.

For me the sweet spot is between $800, and $1000, but I don't game.
My most demanding program, is flight Sim.

At any rate, you are probably looking at Intel Sandy Bridge, processors.

Gaming is massively important for me, my budget goes up to 5,000$, since I'm making so much I'm very willing to spend my money on the highest tier in graphics gaming, since I figure its nice to contribute if you're in the know how and can.

So you want 2 top of the line gamers?

Wait a bit, some of our younger members are better at it than I am, but if they don't jump in, it would be easy for me to pick out the top of the line everything, and not come close to that budget, for 1 computer.

You may want to start a new post, with the title "$5000 new build", that is sure to catch their eye.
