    Motherboard and Memory upgrade?

I have and Intel Pentium CPU, and I want to build a system. I found this ABIT AW8D motherboard which I think I can get really cheep:

    ABIT AW8D Intel 775 Socket Motherboard - PCI-E, SATA - eBay (item 170629395911 end time Apr-23-11 15:40:34 PDT)

The same guy has some DDR2 memory:

    Crucial Ballistix DDR2 - 2 GB (4 x 512 MB) - PC2-5300 - eBay (item 170629398808 end time Apr-23-11 15:53:36 PDT)

Is this memory good for this motherboard?

I think I can get this all for $25-35$ - seems like a cheep combo, what do you think, is it worth it?

You have an Intel Pentium what cpu, whats the exact model??

The starting prices are more than $25-30 shipped so I doubt you are going to get it that cheap but yeah if you can its not a bad combo for that price.

The RAM will work on it, but as Rich pointed out you would need to be more specific on the exact model of CPU you have, to know if it is even compatible with the motherboard.

If its a Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual core or anything like that it won't work.

however if its a Pentium 4 or Pentium D it should work.

But post the exact model of CPU you have (should be etched on the heatcap on the CPU)

Wow I didn't even notice it didn't have support for even some of the older Dual Core or C2D chips. Surpising with it being a 975x chipset

Yeah, I remember some 975x boards didn't support them, others did (and it was only the 1st generation of C2D's, not sure if the Core 2 Quads were supported though). Not really sure what the difference was, if it had something to do with the Voltages or what, but I think it stated something in the auction about C2D's needing a new PWM, not sure what all that was about though.

The 975X Chipset was a pretty good one in its day, 1st Intel Chipsets supporting Crossfire for ATI Cards and all, but they were soon outdone and made obsolete with the P35/X38 Chipsets that came after it, fully supporting C2D's and C2Q's.
