Ordered a Gigabyte mobo to replace

I need help from somebody in determininng that I have done this correctly. My Gigabyte EP45-UD3P frpm a build in November of 2009 burned out. I even took the rig to my bud at the local repair shop andhe agreed. PSU, CPU, GPU, MEM all good. So, I painstakingly researched a replacement at NewEgg and bought a P43T-ES3G Gigabyte mobo. Both Socket 775 but did I get equivalent chipsets?I was thinking that by buying another Socket 775 I had assured myself of compatibility.

Had to buy DDR3 mem as the older mobo was DDR2,no biggie. Bought Crucial RipJaw (4GB in 2 sticks )

And bought a new GTX 550Ti GPU so I could move the GTX295 to a quad core build. ( awesome card for folding )

So, am I good to go here? Want to drop in the CPU and power on tonight!

    Thanks,

You don't mention a cpu but looking at the gigabyte site and the support list they both support pretty much the same chips so you should be fine

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.6)

    vs

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-P43T-ES3G (rev. 1.3)

    and

    side by side comparison

    What processor?

I looked around, and they are pretty much the same chip, although the p45 supports crossfire, and RAID.

Curious though, all the p45 I found, support DDR3, and yours doesn't?

You loose firewire, and the second LAN, but those are a separate chip.

the P45, is a better over clocker, from what I read.

My P45 board (3 way crossfire capable) also doesn't, only runs DDR2. Most P45 Boards supported DDR2, it was the X48's that required DDR3, with some P45's using DDR3 as well.

Same here, I think it was towards the end of the run that they updated the chipsets to handle DDR3 even on the P43's

    I knew you'd know.

Pretty much, why I asked the question.
That would have taken a while, on the net.

    Thanks.

I will reply here and catch you both. The P43 is the one that only supports DDR3. Yeah, I hate losing the second lan port but I wasn't using it.

I thought the chip ( E7500 3.93GHZ Intel ) would migrate as well. My guy at the computer shop just called and said he was going to have to do an "overlay" of the OS and needed my key code for disc.

We'll see how this P43 pans out. I loved the EP45-UD3P but they are out of stock and so was Tiger Direct.

This was the rig I built in November 2009 in that mammoth Antec 12000 case. He didn't even have to change any of the standoffs which I thought was unusual.

    Thanks for the response guys!

That's what I thought. It was an Intel E7500 3.93 GHZ but he called and asked for the OEM code on my XP disc so he could do an overlay? New one on me!

    Thanks for the response!

Repair Install, different Chipset would require that, I think thats what he was talking about.

P43 and P45 are same family chipsets, but still different Chipsets, so Repair Install would need to be done.

if it was the same EXACT motherboard model, probably not, but since the board is different it would be needed/recommended to be done.

Yeah, sorry. In the office actually working and the phone went nuts, Had like 19 mails come in that all needed response and today the only personal PC I can reach from my desk is the little Acer with the 1.0 Atom processor and it has trouble keeping up with a web forum and an Exchange client,,,

Lot's of great responses. Makes me question the guy at the Computer Shop but I had taken the rig to him to see if he concurred it had to be the mobo.

Pretty handy though, I have him set as an address in the Ship To: section of New Egg. I even had one of the GTX 550Ti GPU's sent to him and took out that GTX295 dual card since I am doing a new build right now that has a new 295 in it. I hate spending $500 on a GPU but the 295 is the best I ever had. Not like you guys with 9800's everywhere. ( I do have (4) 8500 GT from a failed experiment here in the box beside me.

That reminds me, I need to ship this Cisco 7940 t0 GZ3, I'm a week late.

    Thanks Shy,

You know after I wrote the first response I started thinking you might have meant compatibility for the OS and not the cpu. Sometimes even with the same chipset if there are different controllers, audio and lan devices ect you still might have to do a repair install. But you should be pretty much good to go from there.

Yep. Shy came back and said the same thing. Makes me feel better, I have always trusted this guy Greg. Course, I don't have his bill yet,,,,

Makes sense. I learn something every day.

    UPDATE ON GIGABYTE P43T-EF3G

Well, it's installed and working but, unless you have some very specific reason for buying this specific part number, don't.

It's not half the card the EP45-UD3P is, that card is not back from RMA yet, don't know how long to expect.

My tech guy had to really tweak the Repair Install as this mobo kept giving BSOD.

It's folding and the tools show the GTX 550Ti is getting 6-7K PPD they are not posting on the website. I guess I need to go into config and make sure the new card didn't set me to "anonymous"

    Just FYI!

Sorry, the mobo. The DTX 550Ti is great. Usual quality construction and performance. Not one of those sad little GPU's with a fan, 2 resistors and no cover. And it only needed the 6 pin power, not the 6 & 8 like I am used to with my 295 duals,,,,

I wonder if they will manage to fix it or claim to of fixed it.... Those P45-UD3P boards are still pretty sought after... Not really sure what the replacement would be if they couldn't..

For the GTX550 is that 6-7K PPD at stock clocks?

Using MSI Afterburner to OC a bit but no voltage increases.

If they don't fix my card I will fly to the factory, seek out the tech, and whip his @ss! I am emotional about that card,,,

I don't blame you, I would definitely pay them a visit!

That's a nice bit of PPD for that card... Now they just need to release a single slot version...
