Striker extreme component upgrade.
Hi
Over the past few weeks I've been looking to upgrade my system without changing the motherboard. My setup atm is:
Striker extreme mobo
Q6600 quad core
4GB ddr2 OCZ ram
8800gtx gfx card
750w psu
Bought this custom made pc in 2007 for about £1500 and it's done me well just wondering if an upgrade is worth it?
The CPU is socket 775 so where does that leave me?
So anyone got any worthwhile upgrade ideas?
Cheers
Rich

Hi and welcome.

Is the Q6600 overclocked at all?
Only real upgrade would be the Q9550, though the 775 socket is pretty outdated it will be more beneficial for you to get a new CPU, mobo and RAM.
Maybe in the future a new GPU....

It is pretty much the same price to upgrade that CPU to the fastest available, as it is to get a faster MB, CPU, and RAM.
The new board will also take much faster CPUs.
For the price of this @ $300
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80569Q9550
or this @ $340
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Yorkfield 3.0GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80569Q9650
You can get these for $292
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2300 Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz (3.1GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52300
Newegg.com - ASRock H61M-VS LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - G.SKILL NS 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBNS
I know theses are US prices, but they should be relative.
This is just an example, as I'm sure Aaron can dial this in, closer to what you want, and have available

Nice little bundle...
2500K is a great chip.
That aftermarket cooling will help in overclocking...I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62
