    Motherboard question

    Hi,

I have a Biostar P4m900-M7 FE motherboard. I run win xp . Recently i install 2 X 2GB DDR2 ram. However, window only read 3 GB ram. I read that it is due to the limitation of the chip set.

    I am using Duo Core E2180 @ 2 GHz.

Can someone recommendation a motherboard that allow me to use the same ram and processor and yet does not have the 3 GB limitation.

    Thanks so much in advance

The 3 GB limit is not due to the chipset, it's due to the operating system you are using. You need to at least use XP 64. Plus you need a 64 bit capable processor.

Motherboard specs: BIOSTAR :: P4M900-M7 FE :: Specification

Also in Red Text on that page:

Due to the chipset limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows® XP, Windows® XP 64-bit, Windows® Vista™ and Windows® Vista™ 64-bit.
Could be part of the problem right there.

otherwise the board does support up to 4GB of RAM, just that it could be a case of something to do with the OS your using and some sort of limitations involved.
