Help with motherboard sound card compatibility
I am having problems with the sound card on my motherboard. There is a connection problem of some kind that cause all audio to not work. Some times it comes back on but flickers from on to off. I am guessing it has to do with the audio jack output in the back where I plug my speakers. I don't know enough to take it apart and fix the problem.
From all my search online it seems a good option would be to just install an external sound card and ignore that problem since everything else is working fine. What I need to know and can't seem to find anywhere is where I can find sound cards that will be compatible with my board: F690GVM. I've been told a regular sound card goes for about $10, is this price accurate?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

find out what kind of slot you have, PCI or PCI Express x1 or x16 or whatever, and then just buy a sound card for that slot, thats all you really need to know.
beyond that is if you want just stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 Surround or whatever else.
For real basic Crap sound audio using a PCI Slot: Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Input Devices, Sound Cards, $0 - $10
For twice that price, a bit better than most onboard audio, or at least equivalent...

I like this one! Can you imagine paying that nuch for a sound card? I am developing the same problem as our friend, I have the front audio jack going to the back of one of my "other" generation sound systems. This is all Sony components, dual tape deck, CD player, receiver/amp and I have lost one speaker. I have tested all wires from receiver to speakers, all good. I can swap wires and hear the other Alpine just fine.
But, I have to do somehting, this is the rig where I have Napster loaded (and coexisting with I-Tunes ) and am afraid to log in on another rig nearby. Actually, I don't think there IS another rig sitting close enough that the cables would reach.
Think I'll buy a nice $15 card from The Egg,,,,

November 28th, 2011, 07:12 PM #4Wonder if the OP has done any of this? I have an issue with one of my speakers but I know its the speaker itself not getting a good connection. It doesn't really both me most the time so I haven't bothered dealing with it.I have tested all wires from receiver to speakers, all good. I can swap wires and hear the other Alpine just fine.

Are you referencing the Optical Plug or Output Plug?

OP = Original Poster
The OP didn't mention doing any troubleshooting and I hate to assume that they did. So I was wondering how the determination was made that it was actually a sound card issue and not a wire or speaker issue.Last edited by RicheemxX; November 28th, 2011 at 08:32 PM.

November 29th, 2011, 03:20 AM #7To me, that sounds like maybe the audio out connection, either the port or the plug from the cable is loose or defective so that its loose and connecting intermittently.Some times it comes back on but flickers from on to off.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I have done testing with other wires/speakers/headsets. The problem is evidently something very close to what ShyGuy is referring to. I wonder is there is a better solution than buying a sound card.
