Is $400 american? Im in England so i guess it might be cheaper?

Does that usage seem normal for the sims 3?
Firstly, it looks like you're on a lappy (just on the offchance that the others haven't spotted the battery being at 47% in your pic) so you are likely to need to build/buy from scratch...

Secondly, don't be silly....the price in USD is normally the same figure in GBP, you just change the currency symbol - so if a part is $300 in the USofYankland, then it would be £300 this side of The Pond...

Actually, I've just done a really quick Google shopping check and it seems that you could get a 2600K (latest released version of the i7 chip) for around £250 delivered, from somewhere that I've actually heard of...rather than the first few listed, that I've got no idea about and their price [esp the first one] seems considerably lower than the 'normal' retailers/e-tailers...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...

    current Currency rates:

    300 USD
    =
    194.49 GBP

But then factor in all your guys taxes and fees, and your probably at 300 GBP

And i7 2700K is latest, just a 100MHz Faster 2600K is all it is, for a significant bump in price.

Then there are the Ivy Bridge chips yet to be released, that will be a bit better and probably replace all these current Sandybridge models in the same price ranges.

And I highly doubt their on a laptop... Specs in the opening post would be a dead giveaway..

    motherboard - ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 - AMD 880G - Socket AM3
    PSU - 950 wat

Don't know of too many Laptops that used Desktop motherboards or sport a 950W PSU

The price you see on almost all UK sites is the price you actually have to pay....we don't have to feck about working what the tax would bring it up to - but even if we did, it is a flat 20% rate.. (excluding the items that fall into the VAT free [kids clothes, food and other "essentials"] or 4% [ladies sanitary products] categories)

I didn't see the point in mentioning the 2700K... ...and I forgot about it...

Oh, if you want to have a good CPU to play with, you do do a lot worse than this...

I think you'd just need to add in a GPU or two and you'd be golden....

the battery level indicator is for the R.A.T 9 mouse. im not on a laptop

So i thinik we can say that some people think i need another GPU even though the sims 3 does not need a 580.

If i need to get a good mobo and a i7 GPU for under 400 GBP what can i get? What else would i need to buy? Just a mobo and GPU?

That"s doable, for just a mothjerboard, and CPU

    Newegg.com - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $130

    Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623i72700K $370

Just an example $500US. 324 pounds

You can get a board for as low as $60, but it will only have 2 memory slots, no second PCI/ 16 slot @ 2x8, for SLI/Crossfire, and won't be good for overclocking, as well as less kinds of rear ports.

If you look at my post (here) you'll see that you should be able to get a 2600K delivered for around £250, which leaves you 150 notes to splash out on a MoBo and anything else you want to get...like RAM and a new cooler..

I've got WKS04 running on an i7 920 D0 (stock = 2.6 GHz, mine's OC'd to 4.2 GHz) with an XSPC water loop...didn't spend much more than £400 on it in total [CPU, MoBo, RAM, WC kit, case, etc] but I did get the guts of it from the USofYankland, through someone on here..

Hey...that's about the limit of what I know - hence why I didn't suggest any MoBo or CPU combo...

I still think that maybe go overkill and get something that could challenge Deeeeeeeebs...serious PPD..!

All kidding aside, that is a great CPU, and on my wish list for my next build, for FSX.

Here is the board, i was thinking of.
    Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Taking pass mark for what it is, almost 3 times faster.
    10,072 vs 3,859
I suspect the difference is even more overall on a good system.

The Phenom II Score would increase about the same, maybe more than the 980 model on that Passmark list then, since its OC'd to 100Mhz faster than the 980.

    4,733 instead of 3,895.
