Motherboard Beeping on Boot Up
I can't seem to understand why my Pc beeps 4 times on bootup. I have a
msi (ms-7529) motherboard and besides a usb port not working properly everything is functioning fine. The weird thing is the beeps. The first 2 sound like normal beeps and sound the same, 3rd and 4th beeps are different. Checked Bios nothing there to consider the beeps. I have a Quad Core q660 stock clocks idles @ 25. Nvidia Geforce 8600gt video card and anything else you want to know feel free. I could take the speaker out or ignore it. I am really not sure what to think.

Welcome to TechIMO!
Here is our new beep code sticky.
Bios Beep Codes
What BIOS do you have.
It could be AMI, but I don't see that code on Dudes list.
As I posted, even if you know the BIOS brand, MSI could have modified it for their own.
On top of that, they are very general, and can cover several things.
How is the USB port not working?
Is it just one?Hard Sayin Not Knowin

Very Helpful many thanks. Going by the sticky it seemed there maybe a keyboard error or usb plug in error. I booted it again to count the beeps and 5 this time well hmm ok. So I unplugged my wireless mouse, usb keyboard, usb wireless and audio (really don't think that mattered) and now it beeps only twice. So now it makes sense my pc beeps once for each usb device that was plugged in. Why I have no idea, trying to find my mobo manual but no luck yet. I have never owned a desktop that did this lol. Ok so I am going to read over the sticky to figure out what 2 beeps mean. Found two of my usb ports are acting real strange as they give power but don't function the device properly. As for bios using Cpu-Z I get
DMI BIOS
vendor American Megatrends Inc.
version V4.7
date 07/28/2010
DMI System Information
manufacturer MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD
product MS-7529
version 1.0
Looking into the usb issue, and beep issue as of now.

If the USB port in question is a front one, or one that attaches to the board via plug, that is an easy one.
The plugs on front US ports are almost always wired wrong, because there is no standard.
The port itself is correct, so you have to march the port to the motherboard pin out.
The pin out for your motherboard, is in the manual.
If this is a pre-built, and the ports worked at one time, then that is not the problem.
If they never worked, Then there is a good chance, that is what it is.
I personally, have never had a new case that was wired correctly.
Beep codes, are so general, and modified, I would only be sure, if it was a beep code list, from MSI.
The original list from AMI, is the only other choice.
I'll see if I can find a USB plug pin out, but you need at least a test light, to trace it.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

Here are a couple, all you need is your manual, now.

USB cable schematic pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru
If you don't have a manual, let us know, we can probably find it.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

Well I feel much better now, well sort of. Going by this link MSI Motherboard Beeps on Boot
It appears Msi motherboards beep for each usb you plug in so that is normal.
It still beeps twice with no usbs plugged in so there is still an issue.
My pc is plugged into a TV with an hdmi cable so maybe that's why it beeps extra. I just think its very odd of them to use beeps in this way. Looking at the beep sticky it could of been a number of things.

The USB problem is solved, if they work.
The BEEPS are harder, especially if you don't find, anything wrong.
The link you posted, mentions a way to test if it is the USB beeps. (turning off controller, in device manager, and boot, then vary the USB devices, plugged in, and boot.
You can test memory, and hard drives, with software, but everything else, has to be tested with with another computer, or substituting parts, in your computer.
Did this ever start without those beeps?
Are there any problems, once you boot?
Don't give up, some of the smarter members, probably haven't seen this yet.
Bump it tomorrow, if you don't get other answers.
Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic
Down load the hard drive manufacturers disk from you hard drive maker.
I've only had 1 MSI board, a p4, and it still runs Ubuntu, but it only beeps once, if everything is normal.
Ancient history though.
Sometimes it misses the video card, and BEEPs I think 3 quick beeps, and the monitor doesn't come on.
A reboot fixes it.
Is everything working?
I just noticed something," 2 short beeps, Parity circuit failure"
Is your board able to run parity RAM?. and are you running non parity?Last edited by stroyal; February 13th, 2012 at 08:29 PM.

Here is another list
PC Hell: BIOS Error Beep Codes
Memory pops up, again.
It is an easy test, and will eliminate 1 thing.
If the error is small, you may have to run Memtest86 all night, to find it.
So you should run it overnight.
You will have to burn it to disk, or if you have a floppy, you can use that.
Then you simply boot from that disk.
Really bad memory, will show up on the first pass.
Welcome to computer diagnosis,
It is not hard enough, so we do it on-line, to raise the bar.

Basically, when you can't hold it in your hands, and play with it yourself, it is much harder.
With a computer in front of me, I can answer several dozen questions, in a few minutes.
On-line you have to ask several dozen questions, and you can still miss the most basic thing, that you would have seen in 2 seconds, if it was in front of you.

I suppose if you take it out of context.
I'll reword it next time.
I thought this was a computer forum, though.
Some of us, might not have a dirty mind, like Dr Ruth.
Edit,
Although, probably not me.Hard Sayin Not Knowin
