| K7S5A and XP 1700
I just bought this combo, and a 300W power supply. It wont boot at all. Nothing plugged in but the memory and the CPU, still no boot. It boot once with my old 250W power supply, but that PSU doesn't have the amperage to run the CPU at max performance.....I need help here, im frustrated....what can I do?
Brendan
Let me change that, It wont power on at all, I was in such a hurry, it might not seem like thats what I meant. I tried swapping power supplies, I tried swapping video cards, i tried unplugging all HD and Cdroms. Still, it wont power on.

even with the Hard Drive unplugged, it wont turn on. Not to mention the computer DID boot with the 250 Supply, in the same set up. Now when i switch the 250W back in, it wont turn on anymore.... |

I have also tested different SD ram modules, in both slots, together, seperatly....all imaginable combination. I still cant figure out why it wont start anymore. |

yeah, well after tinkering for a while with it, switching things out, and so on and so forth. I flicked the switch on the back of the power supply a few times, and it fired up. Turned it off, and it never came back. Sigh, this is hopeless.
The big finisher this time was the fact that I didn't have any sort of switch hooked up to the jumper on the board where your supposed to turn the damn thing...it just turned on.

These boards almost require a high quality power supply. Your power supply may put out tons of watts, but if it can't output CLEAN power, then you're going to have problems.
What is the make/model of the power supply? You may need to upgrade to something with more power or better quality. |

When you say it won't turn on, do you mean it won't boot, or do you mean the fans won't even spin? The latter often means there's a short between the motherboard and case; try removing and remounting the mobo. (Happened to me with the K7S5A.) |

I think theo might be right.MOBO shorted out on case or on one of the metal tower clips that you screw into. Try taking mobo out of case and laying it on box and then try booting. Do you get beep or fans? maybe the psu to board connector. Also I had one case where the switch wires were not the same and had to cut the little plug into pieces for the reset,on-off, lights etc to work.(It would plug in and looked exactly the same but the wires were lined up differentlly.

I took the board out already, placed it on the packaging it came in, and tried starting it. You know the gray stuff...the static proof stuff..still didn't start.
And yes I mean the fans dont even spin, nothing comes on.
Now as for clean power, why would it start one time with the 250W and not 2 seconds later when i turn it off, leave the 250W supply on it, and try turning it on again... |
