I can't decide between getting a 266A or 333 via based motherboard. It doesn't seem like the performance differences between the two justify the costs, am I wrong? |

The KT333 chipset is not that much faster than the KT266A chipset. I would agree with you that the performance difference doesnt justify the cost difference. |

Yes VIA did a lousy job on the asyn 133:166 bus that really hurts performance.
Have you though about a SiS based board? 735 or 745? |

If you aren't going to overclock, don't spend the extra cash. However, if you want to get a solid 166+ FSB out of that new XP, the 333 is the only way to go. |

I have benched both chipsets wiht the exact same cpu, memory hdd, etc- the KT333 was 5% faster across the board. But that is with pc2100 memory.

Derek, to get the full benefit of the KT333 Chipset, you'd most likely have to use PC2700 DDR RAM, which is designed for KT333 mobos. That's one of the main reasons i'm getting a KT333 motherboard, since the RAM is also faster, which gives more of a boost in performance.

I've read that even then it's not significant. |

5% in terms of noticeable performance difference isnt that big. I just recently bought a KT333 board, thought it was 266a, so I wasnt disappointed , and noticed a very nice FPS increase from my old Ali Magik chipset, the old slow revision. But the difference between a 266a and a 333 would be marginal, and pretty unnoticeable, at best. |

How is the VIA266A chipset? It seems pretty popular, are there anyknown problems? I remember hearing a lot about "VIA 4-in-1" drivers, or something like that. |

I`m very pleased with it. (My board is Epox 8KHA+)
