Compaq Presario 1234 CMOS battery
Does anyone know how to replace the CMOS battery in this old laptop?
The manual doesn't even mention this, and it seems tricky to get access to the motherboard.
(There are enough companies offering batteries, but I don't think they include instructions!)

Well I just looked up the specs and the memory is soldered to the board and I assume the CMOS battery will be to. Your gonna have to have good technical skills to open the laptop and desolder the battery. Most laptops don't have removable batteries.

Double check that the memory can or can't be removed. If it can then the battery should be underneath it. If it can't then as Tax said you might be looking at some serious work.

Thank you ever so much! Armed with confidence that I could get help here, I gave it a new try.
It turned out I had overlooked one of the screws holding the metal plate (heat shield?) under the keyboard. With this removed, the small board hiding the battery could also be lifted.
The standard CR 1220 battery could be bought at a nearby radio/tv-shop for at modest 4 euros (eq), so now I'm "back in business"!
