Thread: Soyo motherboards

Has anyone had any experiences with the SY-KT333 Soyo Dragon Lite motherboard with the VIA KT333 chipset??
I'm thinking of buying one, so I can build my own computer, if I decide to go that route.
Any feedback would be great!!It sure is dark in here?! WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

not w/ that particular board i haven't but i'm currently running on a Soyo Dragon Plus which overclocks mighty well.. i've taken my 1.33Ghz Tbird up to 1.5 w/ no probs what so ever.. great board.. and the onboard sound is outstanding for just that.. onboard sound.. performs right up to par w/ my tb santa cruz.. so in that aspect i can recommend soyo boards but not all are the same..

I don;t plan on OC'ing anything. I just want to build it and use it.
The board I want, is available from newegg.com for just $84. That's a pretty good if you ask me.It sure is dark in here?! WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

if you're just going for a pop it in and go board i'd have to recommend the MSI KT333 board.. it's a little more than the board you're currently looking at but the performance on that board is bar none.. epox boards are also another great board manufacturer.. as is ecs as of late.. it's all in user preference really.. on what you're gonna be using it for etc..

Not that exact motherboard, but I use the FastFoods FLQT and I love it! So you should be fine...
I run my Soyo Kt333 Dragon Ultra 24/7 with an Athlon XP2000+, 1GB Mushkin PC2700 RAM and it's fast and steady as can be. Soyo is putting out some great boards...I just ordered 10 of the K7V Dragon+ for my shop.
You'll love your Soyo!~ Camp Crystal Lake counselor positions opening daily ~

I highly recommend going to the Soyo site look in the support areas and follow the link that takes you to the usenet groups regarding the board you will find any and almost all problems with these boards.
I dont have the lite but I have the plus just a few issues. PCI slots are picky, hsf issues if it has FOC (fan off control), supposedly SoundBlaster issues, anyway you should really take a look for yourself to give you an idea of what you might be dealing with.
If you cant find the link on the Soyo sight post back and I'll post it.

Here's what I plan on using it with. Athlon XP 1800+, ThermalTake Volcano 7+, 512MB Corsair PC2100 DDR ram, Seagate Barracuda 60GB HDD, Plewriter 40/12/40 CD-RW, 16X DVD, Visiontek GF4 Ti4200 128MB video, SB Live! 5.1 sound, and a US Robotics V.90 modem., all in a Chenming Black aluminum case w/ Fortron 350w PS, case window, and side intake fan, w/ my choice of customer SS fan grill.
The case comes from Coolerguys.com for $129.95. Not bad, I think. It sure is dark in here?! WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Did you already purchase all of these parts you just named? If not, I would like to recommend a few changes without substituting speed or quality...if so, man you've got $$$!
May I ask why?

No I haven;t purchased anything. The case has actually changed, as they don't offer it with the power supply anymore now. I was getting that case b/c it came with the power supply.
Go ahead with your suggestions, like I said earlier, any feedback is wanted. It sure is dark in here?! WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

WHOA!!! No offense, but that's a lot more money than you need to spend.
Ok, here are my quick suggestions...my g/f is rushing me! Stick with NewEgg or MWave for all of these purchases...
--why not go with the XP2000+? Not much more $$$ for more performance.
Plexwriter 40X CD-RW (BIG BUCKS!)
--why not go with the LiteOn 40X CD-RW? Only $63 shipped from NewEgg, half as much as the Plextor. No performance loss!
--why not go with Crucial? It's only $126 right now.
--BLACK EVERCASE E4252BEF5, Intel P4 / AMD 10-Bay. Truely Screwless ATX MID Tower Case. 4th one down on THIS NewEgg link. We use them at work with XP2000+, 512mb PC2100 RAM... Only $57 shipped!
I would also replace the Volcano 7+ and the case...I use the Volcano 6cu+, it is also loud but much smaller and less $$$. I don't have experience with different HS/Fans, but I know others here do...
What are you going to be doing with this computer anyway?

I didn't mean to come across rude or anything. I was just saying that I would like your suggestions. I was going for the Chenming case, b/c 1) it's a full tower, I want room to work in it, and 2) it has a front and side locking panels. Some of my friends like to poke around in stuff that they shouldn't be.
Any experience with ThermalTake's DragonOrb coolers??It sure is dark in here?! WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

According to this site www.dansdata.com having a black case alone will speed up your system even before you install anything.
I agree with the Lite-On drives they are great Im thinking of getting another to replace my ageing toshiba dvd.
Im using the Vol 7+ no problem, I dont really notice the noise.
For $130 you might be able to get a Lian Li case and pick up a Antec power supply for about $70-80 at newegg.
Didnt VisionTek go out of business I would go with a MSI card that way you know you'll have support for awhile.
I went with Samsung memory I believe thats what Crucial and Corsair use anyway.
August 30th, 2002, 05:14 PM #17
I got ya, didn't realize you were going for a case like that...
Mr.Fingers, so that V7+ is doing ok? I've just read a lot of complaints about the noise and size in reading reviews.
I'm not so sure about that black case = faster system deal...but I've heard crazier things that turned out to be true!

Hey I mentioned the same thing about the protection and the side locking panel being a plus and everyone here said the lock could be picked with a paper clip. So when I recieved my system I tried it and the paper clip works great! So if you ever lose your keys use a paper clip. If you really want security from nosey friends who cant keep their grubby hands off your personal possesions get a 16 gauge shotgun.

Martoch yep so far no problems but they arent kidding about the size and wieght this thing could bludgeon someone to death. As for the noise I dont know 4 system fans, a panel fan, power supply fans, chipset fan I dont know whose to blame.

The volcano 9 comes with a relatively low noise 80mm fan. I'm looking for the "coolmod", but they haven't shipped yet. Got an
e-mail from Thermaltake yesterday saying they would be out by the end of the month. . .hey, it's pretty damned close to the end of the month now, isn't it? I want it for a clear case.
I'm surprised you balked at the coolmod,Mike. Cost is supposed to be in the $25 range just like the Volcano 9.
The Dragon Orb coolers have small, high rpm fans - someone here
recently complained that he couldn't stand the noise, but I believe he said it was a Super Orb.
Some money could be saved by buying the steel version of the Chieftec case. But I really like the aluminum. Plenty of room inside,
but only a couple of inches taller than a standard ATX mid-tower.
I think it's the perfect size. But you can get the Chieftec/Chenming
Al case w/ 420watt Turbo-Link power supply at www.case-mod.com for $129 + shipping. Good folks to do business with.
They're a little slower shipping than Newegg, but they'll cut you a break on multiple item shipping charges.
Just my opinion. Good luck!
