Thx Jim
Hot-Swap is a little nerve racking but, I did one several months ago on a MB I purchased for $10 and it is still running DC for the Techimo [Ecc2] Team!

The main thing is that you only do it if you have confidence, because as the pringles adverts say, once you start, you can't stop! |

If you have never flashed a BIOS before - stop reading now and call a professional.

Yep, it takes courage and skill. Very honestly, I'd be afraid of knocking out my friend's mobo along the way. Jim |

I did this several months ago wi a couple of aopen motherboards I bought at a computer show and it does work. Below is the list of tools you need:
Nerves of Steel (with that I don't give a F*&%^ attitude)
Cahuna's the size of a BasketBall
Large pair of Channel Locks

The three things I like about my Gigabyte mobo are...
1.)it's an awesome color of blue
2.)it's corners are rounded (are your Mobo's )
3.)it has dual bios's with automatic recovery! So say you get a virus on your main bios. Your mobo copies over the bad one usuing your backups good copy! Your good to go! Say you have a bad flash! Your PC realizes that boots off your spare chip and you can fix your old chip! It rocks for only a $1-5 extra! |

To Bob the Great: I also have a Gigabyte mainboard, GA-7VRX and I was told by another owner on the Via forum that the BIOS chips on these boards (GA-7VR and GA-7VA series) are soldered into the board and the "Hot-swap" shown in the link I provided above will not work . . . neither of the dual BIOS chips can be removed. I too like the dual BIOS, much easier than the Hot-swap and I won't lose a friend that way. Jim |
