| PC Chips 810 L board win xp won't load?
Howdy,
Just bought a new barebones kit form accubite.
Came with a 1.6 gig AMD, case,300watt power.
Installed a new 60 gig hard drive, 512 sdram, new cd rom.
Tried to install windows xp pro ome, and got the old 'stop 0x0000008e' blue screen when half of the installation was done.
I never had this happen to me before on a 810L board.
I also replaced all the accessories(ram, cdrom, hard drive) one at a time to see if any were defective.
Is ther something Im doing wrong besides buying this cheap board??
Boi's problem???
Thanks, Indypace@netzero.net |

I had a similar problem with a PCChips board when running 2 256 meg RAM modules.
Removing 1 of them allowed windows to install, then I was able to add the other back in. |

Thanks for your reply Kruzin.
I tried using 1 256 stick and it still would not load.
Thanks again,
Norm. |

I'd recommend that you download memtest86.
Just make the floppy, boot it and let it loop for about a day and see if any memory errors come up.
Also, you might try and replace the power supply, the other "usual suspect" in BSOD's.

First step: Check PSU adequacy. Then inspect your CPU cooling, is the cooler rated for the CPU you have, is it mounted properly? Then enter BIOS setup and do a Load Optimal Defaults. Then check RAM, follow the link given by samwichse. THEN install OS. |

Thanks for the input.
I failed to mention fellas that windows 98 sec edtion loaded fine when xp did not on the same 810L configuration.
So I thought my copy of xp pro was bad.
But then it loaded fine on a 920 pc chip board with the same ram and hard drive that I removed form the 810 board.
I did not change the power supply on the 810 board though.
I'll also download the memchecker.
I loaded orginal bio's settings. I'll try optimal next.
Chill block and copper shim and fan are working on cpu.
Thanks again.

My money's on the power supply as the culprit, then the memory. The BIOS settings probably not, but your could set the FSB and Memory at 100 instead of 133. Slowing down hasn't made that much difference for me in the past, but might work loading the OS. |

I got the same problem with an 805 when a corner was chipped off the CPU. Maybe check your chip after you check the other suggestions.
I like that board. I don't think you went wrong buying it. |
