| Memory from Pc shows up wrong
I am running Windows 2000, and have a module from 128 and one from 256 Mb of memory installed. However, the PC only recognizes a total of 256 Mb. What is wrong ? Can I not install 2 different sizes on my motherboard ?
Also, can I combine pc 100 memory with pc 133 memory ? Or does all modules have to bee exactly the same freq. and size ?
Please, some help........ |

Switch them around. Sometimes you need the larger one in a certain slot.
And yes, you can mix 'n match but they'll run at the slower speed. |

When I ran PC100 and PC 133 on my board with w2k I would get blue screens. If I switched to just one or the other everything worked fine.
You could also try just putting in one module and see if it is recognized correctly. Then switch them so you can check the other. If they both check out OK I would then also look to see if the board will support double density ram |

The simplest and most common error here is human, have you tried taking out the 128 and reinstalling it?

how about something simple...
did you purchase High Density ram? a LOT of motherboards wont recognize but 1/2 of the total in high density ram.
if not, then just ditch the 128 stick, and try only running the 256, if it still shows up as 128 this is more than likely you problem despite what you purchased.
Good Luck! |

The strange thing is, when using Sisoftware, it says 1 stick 128 and 1 stick 256. When I right click on my PC, and look to properties, it says 256. Where are the other 128 ? I thought 128 plus 256 is 384 .
I am not a specialist, and I buyed all second hand. The stick from 256 Mb, sdramm, single installed shows up as 128 !!
System is Pentium 2, motherboard is Vic 601 B
