Never had a problem with an ECS here, even dropped a screw driver on a K7S5A MB and it then sparked, the LAN and sound no longer worked but the board still booted up stable. |

ECS has a bios problem that they won't cop to. I've heard everything from cleaning the battery terminals and changing the battery (bad batch?) to soldering a resister somewhere on the board. The problem I had was it wouldn't cold boot the first start up with a ATA 66. My new HDD, ATA 133 solved that problem, so I'm cool. I don't mean to speak for Surreal, but her experience with the board was hardly a breeze.
Try this link. I got an OC bios here and my K7S5A runs fine at 143/143 buss. It's an XP 1400+ Running at XP 1600+ flawless, day in day out. http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwb/ulti...ubb=forum;f=35

well I got my CPU today for my K7S5A PRO and put everything together and the thing wouldn't boot. After a bit of troubleshooting I found out that it was the stck of 128mb PC133 ram - I think, I put a stick off PC2700 ram in it and away she went but the PC133 SDRam would not POST. So either the the ram was faulty or the mobo would not take the PC133 ram. So I was wondering is there a jumper or something to select SDRam over DDRam ? I couldn't find anything in the manual. |

The board (apparently) auto detects memory type.
Out of frustration and disgust, I bought a Chaintech 7SID and transplanted all of the parts onto it and it runs like a champ at 133/133.
I'll miss the USB 2.0 and built-in 10/100, but I've got plenty Of NIC cards.
I will give ECS a reasonable time to respond to my inquiry before returning the board.
As for now, at least I have something stable and running at full speed.

Vert the board takes PC133 just fine. Perhaps you should start a new thread so this one dosen't get cluttered with replies to your problem? |

I recently purchased 2 of the K7S5A Pro's. The first was fine and was running 512 pc133 and also tried it with DDR 2100 and also worked fine. I could run it at 133/133 no problems. Now the second one was DOA tried an xp2100+ and a duron 950, DDR 2100 and pc133, AGP and PCI graphics tried 2 knon good brand name psu's 350w and 420w and was a no go all around, so I pulled it out of the case and tried it on the wooden desk to make sure it wasn't a short and still no go, so I had to RMA it and they emailed me confirming it was a DOA mobo and are sending another. I've used at lease 6 of the K7S5A without a hitch, not one problem. I am a big fan of the ASUS A7N8X and the Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra as my fav. mobo's as I've built at least 3 of each in game systems I've sold. The old ver K7S5A's were a good buget board but the new Pro are starting to make me change my mind about ECS. |

Vert,
Sorry, I almost forgot. Here is the link. http://www.ecsusa.com/ECS_forum/list.cfm?forum=69
What ECS calls a knowledge base is in reality a user forum with very few (if any) answers from ECS.
Please correct me if you think I'm overreacting! |
