Need "recovery diskette" for Presario 7470 Quick Restore

    Hi all,

I need to restore my friends Compaq 7470 using the "Quick Restore" utility (formatted HDD and wrote zeros, not in that order).

All was going well until it asked for recovery diskette, and it will not continue without it.

    Ideas on getting one?

    Thanks,

    -M

Call Compaq/HP. It will cost about $10 if I am not mistaken. Check their website. They most likely have it.

Yeah... thats one thing i hate about HP, you dont get any hard copies of the software.. its just on a seperate drive partition. I would assume the disc is free **cough shipping/handling **cough

actually hp ships an imaged restore disc(s) which is what most major brand vendors do nowadays...dell, ibm, etc.

to single out hp for this practice would be biased reporting...

....My dad bought an inspiron 8200 a few months ago for work, and it came with a windows xp cd (with a dell label on it) and a drivers/utilities cd, not a disc image.. cant say anything about IBM tho, never bought from them..

Just dont f-disc one of those.

Here I was thinking the extra partition was some sort of badly done Compaq go-back and not the OS and all the pre-loaded software, D'OH!

I told the owner they "needed" XP.

Funny part is they are totaly happy with the laptop now devoid of all Compaq crap and can't stop raving over how I doubled the harddrive space on it (was 2 2.5 gig partitions)
