Onboard Sound quit working?

After I got my computer up and running and every thing working I played for a while all was good!

Then I turned the computer on yesterday to hear no sounds at all.

What could be wrong I asked my self. I checked all cables made sure my speakers where on and that I dont have sound muted in windows all good there.

Hmm...

So I reinstalled the drivers with the disk that came with the board and still no luck...

What could be wrong???

does the sound device still show up in control panel/multimedia applet?

Run sfc, run drwatson.

I had a problem once, in 98se or WinME, where the soundcard would install and function perfectly until I rebooted, then it would be gone....actually drwatson told me the answer...turns out that somehow the "mmsystem.dll" was not loaded in my system.ini.

There should be a line like this--> drivers=mmsystem.dll power.drv

and probably also this--> sound.drv=mmsound.drv

Drwatson told me that without the mmsystem.dll my multimedia would be "erratic"..hehe.

check you bios maybe you disabled it

Both of those are already in my system.ini file.

you type "drwatson" with no quotes in the run box?

try sfc with "scan for altered files" sometimes a game overwrites a file etc.

or you could boot to dos and run "scanreg/restore" and restore to a previous registry backup.
