| CPUFAN doesnt work
I have a AOPEN AK-778x Max Motherboard with a 2000+XP AMD prosessor. Everything was working great untill this morning. I left some bench mark tests running just to make sure everything was working and when i came back the SilentTek Utility said it could not find my CPU fan (even though it was controling it before). When i boot up with my cpu fan in the CPUFAN connector it doesnt turn, but if i plug it into SYSFAN it works (but no speed control so it's LOUD).
Also my 2000XP+ is running at 1.25ghz, I thought the mobo would automatically set it to the right speed.
HELP

For your CPU you need to change the BUS in your BIOS to 133mhz. |

have you checked your bios to make sure you have it enabled. If so, then the port may have been shorted out. |

hehe, what do ya know, i moved the wrong jumper back when i cleared my BIOS so everything is ok, it starts up again.
But the CPUFAN connector doesnt work and i can only go upto 129mhz for the CPU system bus. What voltage should the cpu be at? it's at 1.6 now i belive.

should be 1.7 volts at 133fsb. If the port is shorted out, then you need to replace the motherboard or just plug in the cpu fan to sysfan and then disable cpu fan detection. |

Let me go up the voltage and see.
If i used a multimeter could i test to see if the port was shorted out? That silettek program was nice because it adjusted the cpufan speed according to the cpu temp.
O, and what would be the range for a cpu's heat? mine is running at 24C but thats at 1.25ghz (untill i speed it up).
Thanx for all your help. |

Your motherboard should go up to 333mhz bus! Are there any settings in there that are limiting you any way what you know of? |

not that i know of, I upped the voltage to 1.7 and it worked, but it didnt like it when i upped the CPU bus speed to 129. I looked for FrontSide Bus but i couldnt find it.... I updated the bios to 1.10 (newest on aopen.com). |
