BIOSTAR M7VIG PRO Video Problem
I am looking for some help. I just put together another system and this time I used the Biostar M7VIG Pro. I cannot get any aftermarket video card to work with this board. I have tried two cards one AGP and one PCI and each time the display shuts off a few seconds after the Win XP os boots up.
I have tried setting the bios to AGP, disabled the VGA sharing. In safe mode Win XP finds my v cards as new hardware and I am able to load the drivers but I do get an error after driver loading and still have the same problem. I have tried reloading Win XP also. Basically I am using the on board video, which isn't bad but I would like to be able to get a video card to work with my system. This systems mother board is a far cry from the one I recently built using the ASUS P4Pe Black Pearl board, everything from the software to the manual.
Below is some of the hardware if this helps.
Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks !
AMD Athlon 1800
Maxtor 40g ide
Crucial 256m ddr 2700
Crucial ATI Radeon 7500 64m Video Card (won't work)
Lite-on CDRW
Viewsonic crt display

Wow Im surprised your having trouble...My first instinct is to say you got a bum board. (Does happen!)
The M7VIG Pro I last used was really nice to work with.
Wasnt overly impressed with the manual or driver software either but best bet is to go to online driver options for latest versions.

I could be wrong or overlooking something but I ran into zero problems with mine.
Good Luck!
P.S. dont be offended but I have to ask...you did go into the bios and disable the onboard video in the features or options section right?
like I said ...had to ask...Ive overlooked simple things in past as well.Last edited by JPMiller; May 26th, 2003 at 12:52 AM.

JPMiller did you try to add an AGP card? Did you have to do anything to get it to recognize it? I'm interested in this problem because I'm considering on purchasing this board for the Kids PC. I'd like to install my old AthlonXP 1600 on it.
I looked at the manual and it's seriously lacking in information. I'm not surprised because I recently built a system for a friend using the Nforce 2 M7NGC. Nice board but the manual is crap.
metricman Have you gone into the BIOS and looked in INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS? You might be able to disable the onboard video there so that your system will recognize your AGP or PCI video card. I ran into a sound problem recently after flashing the BIOS on my EPOX board. I don't use the onboard sound but use a Soundblaster card. I had to go back into Integrated Peripherals and disable the onboard sound again after the bios flash. The system was seeing 2 sound cards and this was causing problems.
Did you install WinXP using the onboard video? Have you gone into XP's device manager to remove the onboard video and then reboot in safe mode to see if you can install the drivers for your AGP video?Last edited by Xeroid; May 26th, 2003 at 01:16 AM.

Good call Xeriod...I did use an Agp card right from the beginning with install so that could make a difference. It was a while ago so I dont remember the exact sequence or location but I did disable the onboard video right away.
It went smoothly after that.
Like I said, I like this board and it worked well for me.

I got it....
Don't ask me exactly how but disabling the S3 Savage on board adapter and then going into safe mode I was then able to load up the ATI install cd. I did then have a problem with the 'express' install and had to search for the beast driver on the cd. After that I rebooted and everything went ok. I then re-inserted the ATI cd and finished installing the rest of the packaged software. Turn the cpu completely off and restarted, everything seems fine now. But was a pain....I dinked with this issue for about 3 hours or more off and on. But thats how you learn ! You guys helped convince me to try one more time and thats what did it. Thanks.
One more thing, how do you get into 'safe mode' during XP boot up ?

Kewl !
Thanks for the feedback.
I just tap the F8 key while the PC is booting to get into safe mode.

Yes...Thanx for update!
I just use the old "control-alt-delete" halfway through windows load to reboot and bring up boot option list myself.....
Probably not the best way?!
