I have done it, but I don't think it's recommended, you just have to make a bootable CD I'ld suggest making one that doesn't load any drivers and just run the files of your HD (copy them to C:\)

    this is info for NerdyDuffman
you just need to go to the fic website and d/l the flash tools and new bios there should be some step by step instructions on the site. Most companies recomend booting from a start-up disk. Copy your flash files and the utility to another disk and fallow the instructions. just make sure you don't shutdown your computer if you mess anything up!!!

    this is info for NerdyDuffman
here's the link to d/l the bios
    http://www.fic.com.tw/support/mother...px?model_id=36

and the how to link http://www.fic.com.tw/support/mother...procedure.aspx

did you get your flash done yet shady?? are you still planning to do it?

Usually the BIOS flash program you download is put on your harddrive. When you click on it to run it, it wants to create a bootable floppy and put the flash program on that floppy. You then Restart the machine, boot to floppy and run the program and you have flashed your BIOS a min or so later.

The problem is that the way of the future is eliminating floppies.

You can flash the BIOS from a bootble CD but currently it is slightly convoluted... hopefully that will change in the near future.
Either pick up an old floppy drive and cable just for flashing purposes or else you have to find a machine that has a floppy drive and a CD burner to make a bootable CD to flash your machine. Take that BIOS flash program you downloaded, put it on the HD of the machine, run the program and create the floppy. Next make a bootable CD and then copy the files from the floppy to the CD. Take this CD to your machine and boot from CD. From there the Flash process should be exactly the same as if you were doing it from floppy EXCEPT you can not save the old version of your BIOS in case there is a problem.

ok so i downloaded the newest bios and when unzipped it gives me 6 files:
    Af820a.exe
    4 text files
    and iea45.bin

i went through the instructions on the FIC website and im not sure waht to type in when i get to the A:\ part after it loads up.
    What do i type in?

it also says "If unzipping does not produce a flash utility program, consult the support page and download the latest flash utility available." is one of these files a flash utility program or do i have to dl one and what is the link to it becasue i cant find it on their support page

I would say that the Af820a.exe is your flash utility program and iea45.bin is your updated bios file..........I am not familiar with that boards procedure, but I would recommend writing the bios file name down, as most will ask you to specify the bios file by typing it in.......... just type Af820a.exe at the A:\ and enter and that should start up the flash utility.........

ok here goes you may wanna print this out and keep it handy

At the A:> prompt, type the corresponding Flash BIOS utility name and the BIOS file with its extension.

    so you type Af820a iea45.bin

From the Flash Memory Writer menu, select "Y" to "Do you want to save BIOS?" if you want to save (back up) your current BIOS (strongly recommended), then type the name of your current BIOS and its extension after FILE NAME TO SAVE: eg: a:\613J900.bin "it should show you once the flash begins"

Select "Y" to "Are you sure to program?"

Wait until "Message: Power Off or Reset the system" is displayed.

Once the BIOS has been successfully loaded, remove the floppy disk and reboot the system. If you write to BIOS but cannot complete the procedure, do not switch off because the computer will not be able to boot and you will not be given another chance to flash. In this case leave your system on until you resolve the problem (flashing BIOS with old file is a possible solution if a backup exists)

Make sure the new BIOS version has been loaded properly by taking note of the BIOS identifier as the system is rebooting.

if there are any errors do not shut off your computer it will more than likely kill your bios chip. Read the manual before doing this too make sure there isn't something I'm missing but that should be it

If the flash is successful some boards require you to shut off the machine and unplug it then clear the CMOS. Then plug it in and boot up into your bios and reset everything to your liking.

Read the instructions on their site.

Also there is a space between Af820a and iea45.bin when you type in this command.

Other than that all I can think of is that you might have the downloaded the wrong BIOS for your board???

ok first of all i did put the space between Af820a and iea45.bin

I tried it agin and it says "The program file's Bois-Lock String does not match with your system!"

ok so can i just dl the lastest bios or do i have to go in order from the one i have now to the newet one?

you should be able to just d/l the latest one double check and make sure you have the right bios for your board and check to make sure you have the right model number...then check the instruction again to make sure your doing it right...other than that if you still have problems I'd just skip it.

there's two revisions of the same board if you have rev 1.2 1.3 you'll need to d/l the bios for that wich is what I'm thinking the problem is

Seems as tho there might be something wrong. However nerdyduffman might ahve the wrong manual for his motherboard Did you double check to see what revision your board is yet? I'm betting its either rev 1.2 or 1.3 and thats why the flash won't work
