DDR RAM backward compatible?

Are DDR RAMs backward compatible?
For example, could I use PC2700 as PC2100?
( My motherboard, ECS K7S5A Pro, only supports PC1600 and PC2100. Could I install PC2700 on this motherboard?)

only PC2700? or PC3200 and even higher?

You can go as high as you like all the way up to PC4000 but it will only run @ PC2100 speeds if that is all your mobo supports.

It should be fine. It will run as pc2100 (or at whatever you set the mem timing).

Ya on my moms computer has the same mobo with 2700 in there and comes up as 2100.
