    Dual processor suggestions?

A friend wants to build a dual processor box. Any suggestions for the mobo and processors would be appreciated. He will be running AutoCad software intensively for tooling, and probably 24/7.

well, if you're running autocad systems then you will want a Pentium, Xeon, Intanium, or Opteron Setup.

You'll need the SSE2 instruction sets if you want to enjoy true performance, which unfortunately doesn't exist in AMD MP systems.

    Thats all i can offer.

    Thanks people.

What is SSE2, and why would he need it? I am new to this type of technology.

SSE2 stands for streaming SIMD extensions (SIMD = Single Instruction/Multiple Data)

it basically enhances and improves the performance of applications that use 3d graphics, 3d geometry, signal processing and a whole bunch of other stuff.

from what i have devised, it seems that the processor has a built in capability to speed up the use of programs that have been specifically designed for use with sse/sse2, as long as they have certain codes in it it improves the efficiency of the processor and therefore system speed.

this is where i got most of my info

i've got two tyans...both running dual p3 1ghz cpus. Tyan makes rock solid boards...they don't have all of the fancy bios tweaks (for OC'ing) as a couple of other vendors, but they make up for in stablity, which IMO is paramount.

SuperMicro makes some good dually boards as well. I've had a P3TDDE for longer than I had the MSI that it replaced.

I've also got a Tyan Thunder S1837, not quite up to today's standards, but still stable and running smooth.
