Temperature Jumps?

Odd, my motherboard, according to asus probe, keeps jumping from 27 to 88, but its only at 88 (or 72) for like half a second, then back down. It started when I switched users on my comp to set something up for my sister, could it be the fact that Asus Probe is running on both profiles? Or could something be wrong with the mobo? Because this has never happened before.

Specs:
mobo: Asus a7n8x deluxe
cpu: Athlon XP Barton 2500+
ram: 1 gig PC3200 muskin
vid card: Radeon 9600 pro
known damage: small scratch on the back of the mobo, a cm south of the ram slots.

i worked a lot on heatsealing machines and when the thermocouple goes bad on those it gives wildly fluctuating readings on the temperature control module. if the bead type sensor i've seen used on most mobos is ANYTHING like a type k thermocouple in it's construction, then it is knackered and the readings will soon become wilder. time to replace it, i think. however i don't think this will cause any DIRECT harm to your mobo in it's current condition, although you can overheat without knowing about it until too late.

If you dont have the latest BIOS, upgrade to it.

Also try monitoring the temps with other software as well for the temperature jumps. I recommend MBM5

Try here for help on setting it up - notice the differences in settings between revision versions ... make sure you use the right settings.
