Hi. I have a GA-8IP900 gigabyte mobo with the award bios. I just installed it and when i boot i get 1 short beep which means its succesful. Then it goes to boot the windows xp cd and while it says inspecting hardware configuration the bios starts to short beep continously and then the pc just shuts off.. It is never a constant number it is sometimes 8, 4,5,.
WHAT IS WRONG??? I have a hdd in there... everything is cool until i try to load the windows xp cd so i can install xp.
Can anyone help? |

cpu heat related i would imagine, the only thing that causes constant beeping would be a heat problem. Did you build this computer yourself, or did you buy it from a company like bestbuy?
does it make a difference if you leave it off for a long time and then start up, does it last longer, or is it the same time everytime? |

thanks for the reply..
Yes, i built it myself. It was fine with my old soyo mobo but now it just beeps. I have also considered the fact that it could be a cpu overheated.. actually i've concluded that this is the problem. When i boot and go straight to bios the cpu is at 68-70 celcius. btw i have the cpu overheation alarm set in the bios. so when the xp cd loads i guess the cpu is used more and thus the temp. increases. So i get some beeps and then the thing turns off.
The thing i dont understand is why did the heatsink provide ample cooling on my old mobo and not with the new mobo.
I REALLY hope that the issue is simply cpu overheating because returning a mobo to an online dealer is a pain in the arse!!
anymore suggestions is appreciated. thanks
Also forgot to add that my heatsink was really cheap.. and not intel certified... its an EVERCOOL.. I am considering buying a new intel certified one.. will this solve my problem?

I agree with DPA as well. The beeping makes it pretty positive it's overheating somewhere in your comp.
On newer systems CPU's get hotter than the older models, due to the newer heatsinks and fans can cool them better. (Chain effect) Better Heatsinks and fans=hotter cpu's. Hotter CPU's that can be cooled to operating levels=Faster speeds. (I think that makes sense )
I would suggest the new heatsink, and would figure your problem will be solved as soon as it is installed.

sorry i'm not really familiar with the tech talk and im new on the forums.. im assuming hs/f means heatsink fan.. I dont know what you mean by stock.. i bought it at Compusa for like 10$. i have sealed it as much as i can.. it could be that the thing just doesnt fit right on the board. No I didn't use AS3.. I used regular thermal paste that came in a little packet with my old motherboard. Do i need AS3? Thanks for help |
