| ASUS P2B-B and USB 2.0 PCI card
Asus P2B-B - Has anyone installed USB 2.0 pci card? Tried to install Belkin 2 port card and motherboard would not recognize it. Disabled onboard USB. Flashed Bios to latest Beta. Pulled other PCI cards until I had two spare IRQ's. Have disabled, then deleted Intel USB in device manager. Windows still loads drivers for onboard USB at start up even though it is disabled in Bios. Called Belkin, they said it just won't work. If anyone has successfully installed USB 2.0 pci card, what brand was it. Have USB printer and digital camera I need to connect ASAP. Thank you in advance,
Kent

Try a Siig pci card. I had one installed before I got new motherboard w/onboard USB 2.0. I had no troubles with it.

Thank you Gerry. About 30 mins ago I completed the RMA procedure for the Belkin USB pci card and ordered a different USB pci card with firewire too (figured I might get lucky and one with firewire, I know Asus must have made Bios workable for firewire by now, and made by someone else might work) that just happens to be made by Siig. Now my shot in the dark looks a bit better. Thanks for taking the time.

I doubt they have all that new of a bios for that old board. I tried to find one for an p2b-f...they had some but I cant remember the date..couldnt find any drivers at all.
I was musing that maybe the usb2 card required a newer version of the pci standard than what the asus board had perhaps?? Like maybe it required pci 2.2 and the board only had 2.o (or something like that)

The USb 2.0 +1394 combo kit was what I was using but my motherboard had an i815 chipset. I looked at the SIIG website but it wasn't any more specific than requiring a pci slot. I believe that the p2b-f pci slots are 2.1 but the only board that specifically said so was the p2b-b so I am not certain.
The newest bios for the p2b-f is dated 8/28/2002 and can be found here .
Hope it works out for you.

I have 2 P2B-B s and the latest BIOS is a bata version available on the asus web sight. It's 1014B and I have been running it for about a year on my 2 boards, it even makes that message at POST go away that you get after the 1011 BIOS update.(BIOS NOT UPDATED). Although 1011 worked fine also.

I just happened to have one of my P2bbs on the workbench with a IOGEAR USB2 card sitting near by, so I installed it with no problem. I never tried it before because I have no USB2 device and the onboard USB worked fine for my USB1 stuff. keep in mind I have BIOS 1014b, but I don't think that makes any differance.
Oh the model # is GIC220U |

stroyal..just out of curiousity..what do you do for drivers for those boards? I guess xp has drivers already etc. But say I load w98se...am I stuck using 5 year old drivers?? Because asus site has nothing but bios updates for my p2b-f and p3b-f etc.
Thanks, JP |

I've used the onboard USB with 98se and win 2000Pro and the drivers install with windows in both cases.I don't use anything off the Asus Disk anymore. |
