hsf holder broken
Can a hsf holder on a P4 socket 478 be replace? My son was on his pc last night and said that there was a pop. I open it up and notice hsf holder was broken off on one side. Thanks

replaced? doubt it.
BUT..what you can probably do is get a heatsink that has the three clips on it...cuz I think you start with 3 dont you? so it would use the remaining 2.
Ill have to look at a board to see, lol.

John, yes it does have a big plastic thing surrounding the heatsink and the motherboard is soyo sy-p4is2.

The braket will come off mobo at bottem of baord. Look at the tabs. The are press fit. It can be replaced. The cage is only plastic. Two options. A hunt for a very hard to find part. Or B get a BOLT mount HSF that wont need the plastic retainer. You remove the cage from mobo then the HSF will go through those holes with bolts and springs etc. The + is it will NEVER come lose or break like that old one did. Newegg has them.

Tad $ but quicker than finding stock retainer bracket is. And its super secure then. recomended for lan partys and teens. hehe.

Sure is a nice though. If I had a p4 still Id get that sucker.

I went with the secound option, I order a P4 Socket 478 retainer clip tonight from work. I try Newegg but could not find any so I order one from jab-tech. Thank you for your reply.

jab-tech huh. Got a link. Never found replacment stock retainers before. Might be handy later-never know when one will break. P4's need alot of HS to cpu presure.
