Let me start at the beginning...I have an odler HP pavillion. It came with WinME, but the disk was lost in a fire, so I reinstalled it with Win98 SE (WinME was corrupt). I had managed to get all the basic drivers I needed for the computer to run. ANd I had sound too. So awhile back it came time to reformat my hard drive. Only this time no matter what I did, or what drivers i tried the sound wouldnt come through. It didnt even recognize the on board sound card. SO!
I bought an Aureal Vortex 8810 card off of eBay. I have installed it. There is no sound what so ever...and I know these speakers used to work!
I have checked everything to make sure nothing is muted. I have downloaded and installed new drivers. The computer recognizes the sound card and says its working properly. I have a volume control now, and the AUreal control panel etc. I have the mutil media HP keyboard.. and even downloaded new drivers for it. (The speakers themselves have no volume control.. its off the keyboard) I made sure after intalling the multi media keyboard that it wasnt muted either.
I have tried every every single way possible to connect the speakers cords, and the sound card cable.. which I have no just taken out, since I realized I only need that for the CDROM....I have even tried to connect the speakers tot he on board card. I have also disabled the audio in the BIOS.....but still no sound.
Is the card no good? Seems that it would be if the computer is recognizing it alright. What in the WORLD am I doing wrong? Its now 2 days later and I am so fed up with trying to get this to work. Perhaps I will just return it..... ANY help will be greatly appreciated
I realize too that Aureal has since gone out of Business and that creative labs now owns its technology....THank you again
