| Help with DVD burning: file types
Hello,
I just got a DVD burner, and I was attempting to burn various random video files I have on my computer that I've collected over the years. They are in various file formats (mov, mpeg, mpg, avi). I am using Roxio DVD builder in the 6.2 suite.
When I drag the files onto the project, though, I get an error message for each one: "This file may not play correctly on your TV." It says that it's related to "File Quality" -- video bitrate, audio bitrate, frame size, and frame rate. So I guess my question is, if I burn them anyway, will they play, and just look bad? Or do I have to convert them to a specific file format before I import them into the project to get them to play on the DVD player at all?
Sorry if these are overly basic. I'm not familiar with video files.
Thanks!

It depends on what you are going to do with the DVD once you have burned it..
I think you just want to use the regular Disc Creator. And just burn the Files to the DVD.
with the DVD Builder.. it assumes that you are going to put the DVD into your DVD player and watch it on the TV. Alot of video files dont have enough quality etc.. to conver to MPEG2.. and play good on a TV. |

Thanks for the response.
My intention was to watch it on a TV. So, if I go ahead and burn anyway, will it just look crappy, or will it not work at all?
Thanks,

If they are in formats that are not compliant with most DVD players like MPEG4 (DivX and XviD), quicktime, or wma chances are it wont play those file and most of the software I use to burn DVDs wont even let me put a video file onto a video DVD unless its in the right format of MPEG2 or can be converted to it before it burns the DVD.

I've done what your talking about and the quality was ok. When I tested Roxio's software I let it convert various videos I've received in email and the like. Quality on most was ok, but a few were too low of a resolution to begin with and weren't really watchable after converting. You'll just have to test it out and see if you can live with the quality. |

fosin,
So if I just dump them all in the DVD project and hit burn, Roxio will convert them to the proper format?
Thanks,

I tested EZ CD 6 ultra or something like that. It handled a mix of movie files, didnt have any DivX to test it though.
