Is the Lite-On 16x DVD Player any good?

Is the Lite-On 16x DVD Player any good? It looks like a good value to me. It costs from $60 to $90. I don't want to spend alot of money, but if you know of a better one for about $100 or less, tell me.

I installed one for a friend of mine a couple of months ago. So far he hasn't had any problems with it.

I've tried a lot of the generic/OEM brands of DVD players, ACER, BTC, and LG. Lite-On most likely is similar to the ones I've used. The only thing is getting different DVD player software like WinDVD to get them to work well under different operating systems like Windows 98 or Windows 2000. They all seem comparable in noise and have not really noticed if one skips or is slower than the other.

I have put it in two systems and my customers have not complained about them.

Then I put one in my sister's PC and haven't had any problem.

In fact I can tell a difference between the access time reading a CD vs. my Plextor 12X10X32!

The play back is really good too using PowerDVD!

Well now that we're on the subject, what about the Pioneer 106s? I've been looking at it for a while and waiting a good deal to buy it.

It appeals to me cuz its a slot load.

lite-on dvd and cdrom drives are funny...when you close them, they sound like hydralisks from starcraft...

LiLRiceBoi, I'd stay away from the pioneer, I've heard good things about them but had nothing but bad experiences with pioneer drives. I'd reccomend Toshiba over pioneer anyday.

I've had both the Lite-On and Pioneer and loved them both. If I had to choose I'd go with the Pioneer. It just seems a little smoother and less noisy. But they both work great.
