No sound in rear speakers when watching DVD's

Hallo, I've got Nero 6 Ultimate. I also have an onboard C-media card on the Asus A7A266 mobo. The rear speakers are connected and they work in win-amp, etc. However, for the life of the me, I cannot get the audio to come out of them when watching DVD's in Nero Showtime. Any ideas?

Have you tried a different dvd player?

Try WMP as its a DVD player as well.

See, my problem is that I also have PowerDVD, but it's the OEM version so it doesn't support 4 speakers, and WMP uses that codec, so it's of no use to me. That's why I upgraded Nero to the ultimate edition, because with the free one there was no support for 4 speakers either, now that there is, it doesn't work

Do your speakers have a "test" so that you can see if its truly sending a signal to all speakers, and not just "cloning" sound from the front speakers when you do hear sound from the rear speakers?

Here's my configuration: front speakers connected to the front speakers out port on the mobo, and the back speakers are connected to the back speakers out on the mobo.

No test that I know of.

In Winamp I had to enable the direct sound plugin. My theory is that the drivers for my card have to be through direct sound, and I gues showtime doesn't do sound through direct sound.

DO you get sound in your rear speakers when you play a game with surround sound?

Check your settings in your DVD player (Nero) and see if you have to enable somthing to get surround sound.

I don't know anymore as I use WMP and it plays DVDs and surround sound files just fine.
