| Favorite Video Editing Program/Platform
I'm starting this thread to ask people their opinions of various video editing software/platforms. What programs have you worked with, what did you like/not like, and which would you recommend to someone else?

Top of my list is Adobe Premiere Pro for editing on a PC with After Effects to add motion graphics to it.
If the price tag scares you or you just dont need that much power I recomend going for Ulead Video Studio All are great programs. All are for Window PCs |

I have Adobe Premiere Pro myself on my computer, I haven't used it extensively yet though. I've worked a little bit with FinalCut Pro on a Mac, it's a very powerful program. I've also seen Avid Xpress DV, although I haven't actually worked on that system yet. |

Avid is nice, I have only worked with it a little as well as Sony Vegas so I cant really recomend them. I decided to go with Adobe stuff because they had the complete solution that worked flawlessly together. I use Premiere to edit. After Effects if I need to do some cool motion graphics. And Encore to make the DVDs as well as Photoshop to work on the menus. Plus I was able to get all of those programs for a steal with my student discount with the Adobe Video Collection |

From what I've heard Avid is pretty much the industry standard, although FinalCut Pro and others are quickly gaining in popularity. |

Anybody have an opinion as to whether Macs or PCs are better, I know on a thread a while back I stated that almost all video editing comps I'd seen were Macs, and people said it didn't make a difference, that Windows was better because of the non-proprietary hardware. Any comments? |

Only worked with Final Cut so I'm probably unqualified, but I liked it.
As for PC vs. Mac it's almost down to no difference at all. Just depends on what kinda cash you have. Even in PC's AMD vs. Intel is almost a non-argument. I assume you're pretty new at this and won't be spending 20 hours a day editing and I'm no pro but I'd say bang for your buck a P4 550 should be plenty if you have to ask. If you're already making money and are looking for something to step up to then or can just afford anything get a 570.
BTW I'm assuming this is to make money and you won't be overclocking. If you're doing it for fun or you think oc'ing a business machine isn't one of the dumbest ideas one can have go for a s939 winnie. My 3000+ out benchmarks all the 5xx series at 2.39 in multimedia.

Windows movie maker with DiviX compresion works pretty good for basic stuff, but I use Premier Pro for anything complex that I want to look very nice. |

I have edited on both systems. I felt cheated on the mac system mainly because of the price. They have some really nice programs that the PCs do not, Shake 3D and motion. However, the PC has competitors. I have yet to see something done on a MAC that couldnt be done on a PC. Both are fast. I doubt a end user would do something that would show a decent speed difference. The main thing would be what are you most comfortable. |
